In a span of five weeks, hundreds of fashion shows and presentations were held around the world in New York, London, Milan and Paris.
It was a season of notable firsts: Clare Waight Keller and Natacha Ramsay-Levi debuted their collections as creative directors for Givenchy and Chloé, respectively; and Joseph Altuzarra and Thom Browne said goodbye to the New York Fashion Week calendar and hello to Paris.
Additionally, there were plenty of awe-inspiring moments, with the biggest one being at Versace, where Donatella Versace paid a major model tribute to her late brother, Gianni Versace, during the finale of her show. At Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld continued to astound show goers by creating a mind-boggling life-sized waterfall inside the Grand Palais.
Aside from designers playing musical chairs and Instagram-worthy show moments, the clothing was innovative beyond belief. Designers delivered groundbreaking fashion looks that ranged from wearable to impractical, with some even dabbling in surrealism, as seen at Comme des Garçons, Thom Browne, and Jeremy Scott.
And after examining all the collections, Yahoo Lifestyle has determined the season’s biggest trends. It was clear that ’70s and ’80s fashion were major points of inspiration for many designers with fringe, tie-dye, polka dots, sequins, and bright, colorful plaid emerging as major trends. But still, more subtle and modern shades like pastel pinks, blues, and yellows were incorporated as well.
