The one rule for success

Successful people are no different from the rest of us. They don't have extraordinary abilities that make them more tuned to become successful. They are not people who are just too lucky in life to have doors open for them once they go knocking on them.

You see the truth is, like the rest of us, they also have their fair share of failures, disappointments and setbacks. They also struggle to overcome difficulties and believe it or not, if you have faced rejection time and time again, they also have faced it.

The struggle in life is a struggle for all no matter who you are, where you live and what you do for a living. It is a struggle for survival with the sole aim of living a more decent life far better and above you present standards, doing the very things you love doing.

So what makes successful people different from you?

If success had one definition tied to it this wouldn't cover all the many ways it could be defined. And that is because it may mean different things to different people. If you are working in your chosen profession, you seek to excel in that profession.

So whether you are an architect, doctor or lawyer, your aim is to reach the top of your profession. Marlon Sanders says that in any profession you start out among the last 10 people, at the very beginning.

Now your aim is to be among the top 10 people in that same profession, that is at the top of the ladder.

Aiming to be among the top names in your profession requires you to focus on setting goals of achievements.

Why is goal setting important?

Goal setting is important because it allows you to gradually make progress towards achieving the success that you want.

Everyone sets goals for the new year. And this is because they want to start out on the right foot and get the best out of the New Year. But here are a few surprising facts,

People with written goals are 50% more likely to achieve than people without goals

92% of New Years goals fail by January 15th

Only 3 out of every 100 adults write down their goals down on paper

The importance of goal setting is found in what it can do to motivate you to stand up and pursue your dreams without having to procrastinate all the time. You know you want to get something done

but you just can't commit yourself to gettting it done. You lack commitment and this delays you from ever moving closer to your dreams. Goal setting can be helpful in that

a) It helps you plan the order in which you want to arrive at your desired goals

b) It help you to see clearly what you have to do to achieve your dreams.

c) It helps you to define a time limit for achieveing your goals.

"The achievement of your goal is assured the moment you commit yourself to it."
Mack R. Douglas

Goal setting requires making sure you are committed and follow up on the goals you wish to achieve.
Without committment, your goals mean nothing and therefore have no value.

Successful people make achieving goals look easy. And that's because they have reached a point in their life where they've made their dreams come true. They set goals and followed them all the way through. They set their focus on what they wanted to achieve and never

allowed any thing to stop them. Is it difficult? Yest it can and will get difficult. But you have two choices,

  1. Stop at the very first dissappointment and give up..

  2. Commit yourself to your dream no matter what comes..

In the end, if it is truly is your dream, then you won't let anything stop you. You have to realize it!
