Meditation is key to freeing and controlling your mind or thoughts and training yourself to focus on your goals. I would add that you also need to make peace with your mind. That negative thoughts or thoughts you may not agree with will pop in. You need to be able to push them to the back and focus on the positive and that all come with practice. Yea that is exactly true and think is the case to do so. Once we understand the positives we want to receive we can choose to have those only and remove negative thoughts or feelings when they pop up. Great point to add @redwellies!
