Joy
There are many opinions and sometimes facts when the conversation of entrepreneurship is being held. Although most things you have probably already heard, it is essential to listen and obtain as much as possible. I believe that anyone can achieve the title of becoming an entrepreneur, but are you willing to put in the work that is included in the journey? I think this common thought of putting an idea into the world and everything coming so quickly is what everyone believes and hopes for. However, that is very rare to come by anyone who enters the business world.
The movie Joy expresses this ideal excellently, containing all the hardships of the journey to becoming a new business owner/creator. Joy is a woman who, ever since she was a little girl, had a creative mind but would eventually fade away from that side of her life for some time. She did not have much of a supportive family to help that cause either. They were a very negative family who would shoot down others' ideas or thoughts. Joy's grandmother was one of the only ones who ever believed and had faith in her doings, and even though Joy loved her dearly, she faded away from her beliefs. She did other things, such as getting married, having children, and tried living a "normal life." In time she found that life was not for her, leading to a divorce from her husband of two years. With the divorce came something good, however. Joy went back to being herself and instantly thought of what could be called a life-changing idea. It was incredible to see how invested in herself she was; it was as if I could feel everything she was going through throughout her journey. Of course, there were good times, but with every good time comes wrong, right? There were many bad times during her time trying to get her business up and running that set her back, and for some reason, she was not quitting. I feel if most people were put in some of the situations she was in, they would have never gone as far as to risk everything as she did. This leads me to think if that were the case, we all would be entrepreneurs making crazy amounts of money. It was very moving to see how far someone was willing to go for something they worked on so fondly, inspiring even.
There was trouble when it came to getting her new product out and revealed to the world. Joy had no type of sponsorship or advertising. So as any person would, she went on to show people in towns at nearby stores. With that came many failures and even getting kicked out of places with the law. These things did not matter to Joy, even though they could sometimes be unmotivating. She prevailed and kept moving forward no matter what was thrown her way. She believed in herself and her work. Eventually, she had her "big break" and connected with a businessman named Neil. Neil became a massive part of Joy's process of getting her business idea out to the world. Joy and Neil met at Neil's job, where she would pitch him her self-wringing mop. Which, at first, was not taken very seriously by Neil. However, Joy was desperate and did not take no for an answer, so she did what any salesperson would do. She sold her product in every way she knew, whether physically or vocally.
Eventually, Neil accepted her idea and conducted it to be shown on television. All was finally falling into place for Joy at this moment. She finally caught the break she had been waiting so long for, only for the man demonstrating her product on television to not misuse the self-wringing mop and create a horrific sighting for the product. Feeling devastated, Joy eagerly decided to take matters into her own hands. She fought for a second chance and to be one revealing it. After some convincing, she was given the okay and did just that. Calls from buys started flooding the room, and sales were incredible. Joy finally got what she had so discreetly worked for. Everything was finally falling in her favor, which felt like the first time in her lifetime.
In time, however, trouble found its way back to Joy's life when the people who were supposed to be "manufacturing" her product were stealing her idea and using it for their profit. Joy saw this and stopped it in person, gaining all the money she paid them. In the end, Joy ended up becoming a very wealthy and great businesswoman of her own. The journey that Joy went through is one of many people go through daily. She fought for everything she believed in within herself and put her product out there for the people's convenience. The design was modeled to make mopping more effortless and cleaner for people worldwide. Which happens to be still used to this very day in life, so I would say it affected society in a very positive way.
I believe that all things are achievable and that everything is on you. You will never prosper if you are not willing to go through hardships of life and fight your way through them. There is a quote I live my life by, and that is, "A moment of pain is worth a lifetime of glory." Greatness awaits everyone in this lifetime, no matter how big or small. All you have to do is believe and work like a mule to achieve it. There will always be adversity in everything we do in our lifetime, it is just something we can not escape. The key is how we decide to handle those situations and how we move forward during those times. Joy did exactly that throughout her entire process. Let your actions speak louder than your words in everything you choose to do in life. Although everyone has different perspectives on things, one thing I can say is the main message is very clear and as I stated earlier, an inspiration to do such a thing.
