RE: The Most Successful, Non-Violent Wasp Trap

in #summer5 years ago

Very interesting that a single apple could divert all the wasps from your campsite. I will try an apple next summer for my wasp problem.
Meanwhile, I've also found that a little peppermint oil mixed with water (maybe 1 tsp oil to a pint of water) and put in a spray bottle is pretty effective.
Spray all the eaves of your house and other structures and anywhere else you expect wasps to nest. Shake the bottle frequently.
Not exactly a non-violent solution, but definitely better than toxic wasp spray. And it's preventative, too, rather than curative.

Sort:

I dig peppermint oil, will try that out next summer. Thge wasps in Leeuwarden were ticking differently than others I had encountered previously. They were aggressive and outright audacious, maybe they have a thing for apples. Never thought an apple would be a better lure than sugary liquors but it was, by far! You just really have to make sure that the apple is nowhere where people would step on, especially at night. It would be a horrible horrible experience disturbing their crawly-munchfest with a foot ;)

thanks for sharing your take on this <3
