Sumo - Nagoya Basho, July 2018 - Brief after Final Day-15

in #sumo6 years ago (edited)

2018 JULY NAGOYA BASHO IS OVER

Sekiwake Mitakeumi lost his final day bout but he clinched the title day before with 13 wins. Mitakeumi fineshed the basho 13-2 and is the winner of Emperor's Cup for the first time in his Sumo career.

Since 1999, it was the first time when all yokozunas were out. Besides Hakuho, Kakuyuu and Kisenosato, the Ozeki Tochinoshin was also absent.

Ozeki Goedo and Ozeki Takayasu were kadoban but they both managed to get kachi kochi and maintained the Ozeki rank.

Tochinoshin will be Kadoban for the September Basho.

Kisenosato missed his eighth basho consecutively and this is the record for yokozuna to miss back to back tournaments. It might be the over of Kisenosato's career.

See you in September
