OVERVIEW
McLaren’s know-how with lightweight, aerodynamic, ferocious supercars is undeniable, and the 720S is proof. A 710-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 drives the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic and blasts from zero to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. Drift mode is offered in addition to Comfort, Sport, and Track settings; cruising is surprisingly quiet and civilized. A touchscreen infotainment system is standard, as is a digital gauge cluster that hides away in the dashboard.

PERFORMANCE
The McLaren 720S can accelerate from 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 2.7 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than the 650S and 0.2 seconds faster than the 675LT) and 0–124 mph (0–200 km/h) in 7.8 seconds (0.6 seconds faster than the 650S and 0.1 seconds faster than the 675LT). The 720S can achieve a maximum speed of 212 mph (341 km/h), and has a 1/4 mile time of 10.3 seconds. Recent tests indicate a quarter mile time as little as 9.7 seconds. These performance figures make the car faster than most hyper cars. The 720S's handling is improved with McLaren's Proactive Chassis Control II, which is the culmination of five years of research at the University of Cambridge by PhD students.
The 720S also comes with Variable Drift Mode, which manipulates the stability control to help drift the car.
The McLaren 720S has a power to dry weight ratio of 1.78 kg (3.92 lb) per horsepower, which is better than the McLaren 675LT (1.82 kg (4.01 lb) per horsepower), and the Ferrari F12tdf (1.81 kg (3.99 lb) per horsepower).
DESIGN
Rear view of the McLaren 720S
The McLaren 720S features twin-hinged dihedral doors and many design features from the McLaren F1. The headlights hide air vents that funnel incoming air to two small radiators in front of the wheels. The doors feature air channels that direct air to the engine. The rear of the car features thin LED tail-lights similar to those on the McLaren P1, and two round exhaust pipes. The design was inspired by the great white shark, and features a teardrop-shaped cockpit. All of the exterior features result in an improvement of 50% more downforce than the 650S. The interior of the car includes a folding driver display and carbon fibre accents. The McLaren 720S weighs just 1,283 kg (2,829 lb) dry, making it the lightest in its class.
