@polebird: Baby surfer for the #surfcommunity - Gentle Waves

in #surfcommunity7 years ago (edited)

It was alway my dream since I was little to surf, and so I think it's way neat to be welcomed as a baby n00b surfer into the #surfcommunity project started by @surfermarley! Check out her post here . I honestly only get to attempt surfing maybe once or twice a year if I'm lucky, and the first time I surfed ever was about three years ago. One of the first opportunities I had to surf was during my trip to Hawaii on sunny Waikiki Beach.

I signed up for a lesson with my friends. After a brief 15 minute lesson on land with the instructor where he taught us how to paddle and stand, we were off to the ocean. The beginner boards we given for the lesson are longer boards made of foam.

I truly believe this was the ideal place for me to learn! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to stand or balance, but the gentle waves on the beach were not too bad or choppy, so it wasn't too much of an ordeal to get up on the board. In fact, in the past I have seen that there is a sweet little pig and also a one eyed little kitty named Kuli who have surfed the gentle waves of Waikki. Gave me hope that maybe I could do it too as a newbie. :D I really hoped to see them out on the waves, but no they weren't out there, although I looked for them. By the end of the lesson, I even dared to make a few 180 degree jumps on the board (not much air tho).

Needless to say, I loved it as much as I thought I would. Really cool, a dream come true to have a chance to surf.

Thanks for reading my friends! Hope I get to head back to waves soon! I will be writing another post as well about trying to surf slightly rougher waves, stay tuned! 😅😅

I love it and I love @surfermarly, she is the best.
I always loved watching surfers and always wanted to learn surfing, but I'm so scared of the waves and deep waters even though I love the beach and the ocean.
I tried the paddleboard on the lake but never on the waves, but next time I'm in El Salvador I will definitely try it out, since there are also surfing lessons and surfing is actually very popular in El Salvador.

Awesome video. So happy for you my friend. You are not afraid of anything, which is awesome.

Yeah I definitely like watching surfing as well, which is why I always dreamed of trying. I hope you do get a chance and try on some gentle waves. Haha the rougher waves (which I tried before and they were even not that big) were definitely more scary!

espectacular beach!
Okey, i stay tuned for the another post.

That's the one thing I regret not doing when I went to Hawaii. Looks so fun!

Hehehhe hope you go next time you are there :)

Cool gif you made!

thank you xaero1! :D so glad you liked it - gifs definitely make the page more fun!

My passion for surfing was not more than my fear of sharks...

Hehehe yeah... hmmmm!!

I doesn't seem that your are surfing like a beginner, it looks like you are a pro, and Miss Elastic is looking surfing Queen in this pic.

Hahahaha thank you!! 😊

My pleasure

Wow amazing what a fun I really enjoy. And also best photography thanks.

thank you very much!

cutee!

Thanks Karen! How much longer u in Japan for?

It is really cool. I wish I could have a chance to do something like this also. :(

Thank you so much!

Why is one leg clipped with a rope to the surf board while the other leg is free?

So when you wipe out or fall in the surf board doesn’t drift away!

Ok, that's nice.

I hope you didn't fall Polebird? LOL

This looks amazing!

I intend to try it surfing this year in summer for the first time.
Maybe it will be kite surfing.

I wish my first surf session was in Waikiki! I think it's the perfect place to learn. IMHO, probably both Waikiki and Cowells in Santa Cruz are the 2 best surf spots to learn in the world. But Oahu has a nicer water temperature! I was in Oahu during the winter time, and unfortunately Waikiki was flat, but I scored a couple of really nice sessions in the North Shore. I have to go back to try the South Shore. Welcome to #surfcommunity! :D

That does look fun hehe,. enjoyed your post :)

It's great to have an opportunity to try and learn to surf! Wanna try it so bad, but not sure if my back would be able to handle that haha.
