Did My First Turn On A Wave Today!!! 🌊🌊🌊 When Persistence Pays Off And You Start To Embrace the Learning Curve πŸ₯‡

in #surfing β€’ 7 years ago (edited)

Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in. - Bill Bradley

Well said, Bill.

Today that vehicle drove me directly upwards to the top of a wave where I did my very first smooth turn.

I've been waiting 3 years to live that moment.

What a feeling!

Witnessing the next level - @surfermarly doing her first little turn on a wave today

Striving for progress is healthy

Progress is based on desire.

It's an innate and universal desire to live beyond our income and to vehemently refuse stagnation.

Personal progress is fuel to our souls, keeping our body and mind vital, energetic and healthy. One possible secret of happiness lies in the pursuit of goals.

That's why I'm a huge fan of teaching kids to find their passion.

If kids finds pleasure in learning something, then you won't ever have to be worried about the development of their creativity. To awaken someone's thirst for knowledge, practice and self-development is an honorable achievement which will contribute to their overall well-being.

Embrace the learning curve!

Nothing worth comes easy, and the very first step is always the hardest.

That's the unattractive theory which is generally applicable to all life challenges. However, only a few times in our lives we're actually willing to invest (more) time striving for the eventual turning point - that moment when the curve finally starts to take off.

Lucky me I was patient enough to keep surfing through that low, depressing initial phase. These were three long and hard years of constant failure and improvement, but it was totally worth waiting.

Today I learned how it feels when persistence finally pays off. Here's my literal turning point:

Animation and out-take of my favourite wave, now eternalized on the Steem blockchain [27th of September 2017]

It was one of these perfect days: sunny, summery and glassy.

Funny enough I almost left my GoPro at home, since the wave forecast wasn't very promising and I thought that it would be complicated to shoot some extraordinarily impressive images today.

In the end it turned out to be my best surfing session ever!

So if you wanna do some magic in life, remember this one:

I'd furthermore add a good portion of patience.

At least in the water you need a lot of it. 90% of surfing is sitting on your board and waiting for the perfect break. 8% is falling off your board. 2% is catching waves.

Sometimes little success can make a big difference.

Keep pushing, steemians!

Marly -

Congratulations Marly!! Again again again!
I kinda like the 80% part..you know sunbathe and watch the view ;)

Haha, I like that part, too. It's the one that calms you down :-)
Thanks for the congrats. See you soon in Lisboooon!!

Got the flight, sorting my leave. See yaaah!!

Yeeeew, that's GREAT news!!! Looking forward to finally meet you in person :-)

Well done. I know the feeling. When I did my first backflip wakeboarding it was the most exhilarating experience. It took me 2 years to nail it. Keep it up!

Oh, backflip sounds awesome! My next step would be a cutback though :-)
Thanks for stopping by, you've got a new follower now...

Congratulations, I remember that feeling of performing some maneuver from the first time. It must be exciting. Pretty soon you will be throwing buckets of water around. Keep it up.

Thank you!!!
Oh that would be awesome! The next level (goal) would be a cutback though :-) I'll be working on it!!!

Hi Marly,

I just love how you combine storytelling and video, to share these kind of personal stories - almost s a kind of proud little kid sharing his new skills - meanwhile mixing it up with life lessons.

Your new logo looks great and the overall look and feel of this post seems to really fit you.

Keep up the good work! You're a great example :)

Actually I really feel like a kid sometimes - both in the water and on steemit :-) The two are big playgrounds where we're invited to be creative and self-develop.Wow, thanks for your kind and uplifting words @vincentnijman! Very nice!!!

Following your blog now - love the header btw :-)

Not as uplifting as a wave, but you're welcome!

The header is designed by my lovely twin sister. I wrote a blog post on that a week or four ago.

Back to the water - I have always loved the sea and natural water in general. I definitely considered surfing, also because of the whole FLOW state. Nevertheless, I haven't passed the stage of stand up peddling or SUP-ping in the sea and that was only recently, haha. Might have to do with living in a country at the Northsea ;)

I appreciate your follow! I try to add some value on here and to the world by being the best me that I can be and aim to help, teach and inspire others as much as I can. To be able to fully do so, I need to work a little more on myself first.

Have a great day!

Congratz! that is quite an achievement if it took 3 years :) I am happy for you, and i wish that from now on it is going to be a daily trick :)

Oh I'd love to experience that feeling over and over again!!!
Thank you :-)

I am sure you will, there are so many more achievements to achieve i am sure :)

Many people are said to be "lucky".

In reality, those people were determined, persistent and patient enough to be in the right place at the right time when luck finally struck.

I fully agree! Luck happens then preparation meets opportunity :-)
Thanks for stopping by and commenting!!!

Another good example showing that trying again, and again, and again ... leads to success :)\

PS: this is my way to congratulate you ;)

Hehe, thanks for your (hidden) congratulations :-) They're much appreciated!!
Wishing you a great day :-)

A great day to you as well :)

You go girl!

:)

Yeeeeeeew! :-)

heheh I would recommend getting a cam or something would be fun for you and for us:))

On board with troll flagging:)) Here it goes... :)

Another cam? Oh I'm already busy handling the footage of one GoPro, so better not installing a second one, haha!

ahahha that's true but to get the best shoots maybe try it one day to see how it goes... They're not heavy:P My friend does DH biking just for fun, and he is stacked with a few of them. Like his driving around with a vault:P Anyway have fun that what counts;)

I will need to blog a bit more to afford a second one though...;)

lolz...

Solution: Take me with you and I'll buy a cam hahah

Wow! You will be entering competitions soon, as i remember an old man who taught me how to surf many years ago. He said the first one million wipeouts only show you what not to do.
I just purchased a go pro and used it in Alaska as we fished zip lind and dog sled. Now i need to learn how to use it better,

I am back now and trying to put some articles together out of the over 10,000 photos we made. Good to see you again, my friend

Oh I don't think I will be competing in tournaments at any time, but thanks for your positivity :-)

i remember an old man who taught me how to surf many years ago. He said the first one million wipeouts only show you what not to do.

Yeah, totally. It takes a decent eternity to come further... But it's really worth trying! Today I'm more convinced than ever, hehe!

Alaska?! Wow! Seriously? Looking forward to see those 10,000 pictures!!! It must have been epic.

I was in Huntington Beech a month or so ago and saw the U S OPEN surfing competition, and would love to see you there one day.
I have enough materiel and photos to last a month from the trip to Alaska

That's Rad πŸ„β€β™€οΈπŸ€™πŸ»
Every wave is a new opportunity.

Oh yeah, that's true. And every wave is different also.
Thank you!!!

gracias por compartir . y la curva de los skills es muy difΓcil

I bet it was fantastic! Some day i would like to try it also πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ€—πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰

You should try!!! :-)
Thanks for your nice comment.

Yes, perseverance and work is rewarded ... but you are also an amazingly brave person!

I've never decided to even start surfing :)

Thanks for your nice compliment :-)
Surfing is not for everybody. You can enjoy the Ocean in many ways - also just chilling at the beach and looking around. I do that very often, too :-)

Awesome, I know the feeling! Now you got to do it backside!

Ha, that would be great! I'll be working on it :-)

Awesome @surfermarly. Next time get your GoPro camera and put some of those videos here.

Thank you! Hehe, I did take the cam - the frames of the animated GIF are part of the GoPro footage. The rest of the material is going to be part of the video I will present at Steemfest. So either you can come to Lisbon or watch the live-streaming from the event :-)

Cordialmente @galberto

De nada, el placer ha sido mΓo!! :-)

I just remember that, persistence and consistence are the keys for success.

Thank you! :)

You great post @surfwrmarly

Thanks for the heads up

Congrats @surfermarly ...blessings from me in Jamaica

Thank you!

Very intriguing and informative post shared followed . @surfermarly Wish you the best with all your future endeavors.

I'm loving the new logo!

Congratulations Marly! It's always awesome to hit a breakthrough point; and sometimes you just have to feel it in your whole body to understand what you did... whether it's that first time riding a bicycle or... as the case might be... turning on a wave.

The kick of catching that wave perfectly on the top and then rushing down and swinging your body in the turn is not easy to forget...
And the waves do not have to be huge, they just have to be there and you will get your perfect one
and watching the sets roll by and having a chat and taking it all in while waiting for your turn is an amazing part of the game...
gratz on that first perfect turn marly, I remember mine well, its an important moment

thats awesome! youΒ΄ve now inspired me to get back on my board as soon as the waves get smaller! also, i canΒ΄t believe its still warm enough for you to surf without a wetsuit - we seem to have gotten an arctic currrent and my 3/2 is already too cold! bring some of that warm water over to steemfest, will you :)

That's awesome to know keep it up dear and yeah "Sometimes little success can make a big difference." as you said they definitely take us to another level :D

Life is like a surfing wave. When you fall off the first wave, just inhale a few deep breaths and jump on the next one.

Congrats and that does sounds easy but doing it actually seems pretty hard enough

This one is for me ........
