That looks a lot like my dad's old 'grub hoe,' but on a smaller scale.
I have a big knife somewhere between a Bowie and a kukri in my kit, but a hatchet has lots of uses, and in a survival/subsistence situation, the hoe would be invaluable.
What do you think of entrenching tools and other folding shovels? Better for digging, but not as good for garden work?
I looked at some folding shovels, but I feel like they'll wear out.
Some are crap. The military surplus ones are usually solid though. But most nowadays are trifold instead of wood handles with a folding head. Some jackass burned down the military surplus store in Sandpoint, Idaho where I bought mine almost 20 years ago.
