Where are the safest places to live, thrive, and survive? To answer this question, experts must take into account many things. I found a team of professionals who did just that!
I purchased this book five years ago.
This is the 3rd edition.
It took years to compile and organize the information.
Pictures and detailed maps of the entire United States are included.
Here is a description from Amazon:
"This is the long-awaited update of Mr. Skousen's classic book on relocation for security. Nearly 3/4 of this 3rd Edition is rewritten and it is expanded to 349 pages. In the process, the authors created all new graphics, charts and tables. There is also a new section on international retreat potential and 200 additional pages of analysis on every state and province of the US and Candada, complete with color maps.
The maps are chock full of detail, including private and public land use, satellite terrain features, military target areas, roads and graphic depictions of population density---one of our major threats to security in a crisis.
Despite the ongoing illusions of peace and prosperity, our world is getting less stable, not more. The economic foundations of the US and the world are all based on fiat money and are crumbling. Earthquakes, Hurricanes, War and terrorism are ever present threats, and the secondary effects of social unrest in large metropolitan areas will be disruptive and dangerous if there is a shortage of essential commodities that cause people to panic.
When you relocate or retire your prime concern should be long-term security, not recreation. Sometimes you can have both. This book is designed to help you relocate around serious threats and to develop contingency plans when you can't relocate due to work or family ties.
Strategic Relocation is more than just pointing out safe areas--simply because the safer the area, the harder it is, generally, to make a living and have access to the conveniences of life. For these reasons, relocation decisions are fairly complex, and Mr. Skousen walks you through all of the difficult choices and compromises that are inevitable in finding safety, without being totally isolated. This book has answers for nearly every situation."
You may consider this book to be valuable in a grid down scenario, if you are considering relocating, or if you are curious to see the factors and rating of a North American geographical location.
Mr. Joel Skousen is a veteran USMC aviator and security expert.
I recommend this book for preppers and homesteaders.

Thank you for posting this as I'll add this book to my library. As the economic conditions continue to deteriorate, relocation has crossed my mind. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. This book sounds like it contains some very valuable knowledge. Thanks again for posting this brother!
You are very welcome @orionschariot it's my pleasure. I've been saving this post for a time when I had more followers. "Sharing is caring", so they say. LoL. It's worth its weight in gold.

I have this book and love it. I have also taken into consideration Ed Dames "Safe Zones" too and feel as if I have a solid plan and place. There are so many factors to consider.
Great post, as always. :)
That's so cool that you already have it. It's one of my top shelf books. Thanks for the compliment and your input :)
dreams are contained within that book, I hope to realize them someday!
I am with you on that one! There's some really cool places identified that I would love to visit or actually reside one day.
discovered that gem YEARS ago through survivalblog.com (JWR is the man!)
Outstanding! Maybe JWR will be on Steemit someday.
he mentions bitcoin and few alts every now and then in his economics & investing entries...doubtful but would be cool 'fo sho'
Oh wow. I wasn't expecting that. Maybe he'll migrate over after the platform starts to go mainstream and he realizes there's some crypto to be made and a helpful community here.
Looking into it.....NOW!! Lol. Thanks for the recommendation brother!! : )
This is one of the "must-haves" brother! :)
It's always good to add more knowledge to the library! : )
I bought this book a few years back. It's incredible and packed with so much useful information. While I'm far from being settled, I used some of the information in this book to "narrow down" my options as I moved from Maryland to E. Washington.
While I feel like I'm not quite where I want to be yet, I'm much closer than I was!
Very cool @randomness! I saw the write-ups on East Washington State. It's not too bad :) The rainfall amounts are good and not overwhelming.
Yeah, while the average in my area is only about 17 inches a year, there is a lot of groundwater, so if you have the right set-up, you shouldn't be hurting for water. I'm also interested in ID and W. MT.
Indeed :) I am tracking on the ID and MT. The book is a keeper in my opinion.
Absolutely a keeper. Now if only the Yellowstone caldera would calm down a little bit, I'd be a lot more comfortable with Western Montana. Beautiful country out there!
Oh yeah that super volcano thingy. That could pose a serious threat for millions.
Or even the world, but you know, take it all one day at a time!
Wow nice read thanks so much!! Got me thinking!! God Bless
You are welcome! :)
Thanks for sharing. I don't have this book but I did think of the zombie appocolyps when we relocated to Alaska. Unless zombies can swim I think we are safe.
Hahaha that's funny that you mentioned zombies. There is a lot of information about Alaska in this book. I don't want to spoil it for you but I can say the entire State of Alaska is only rated 2 out of 5 stars. Like I said earlier, there are many factors that go into their assessments.
Sounds like Alaska is not the place to be with only 2 stars. I'll have to check the book out.
Amen! 🙏
I don't want to discourage you on Alaska. I was waiting for you to respond. The book identifies good areas within the state that are better than others. Let me know if you ever get a chance to read the book. If you have any questions about Alaska, let me know. I am willing to answer them.
Thanks! I'm not discouraged. We moved up here from Colorado Springs, which is a target area. We live on a small island in Southeast Alaska. I still think we made a good choice. It's a great posted. I found a 2 hour video that Alex Jones has about this book but haven't had the time to watch yet.
Thanks again.
I saw that video. You will want this book even more after viewing it. Get your popcorn ready :) I have always wanted to visit Kodiak Island in Alaska. Have you been there?
The video, yup popcorn was a good idea. No I have never been to Kodiak. It's on my list of places to go.
Thanks for the book recommendation I will have to get this one. Great post!
You are very welcome @mylilhomestead :) and thanks!
Great post! This book contains a wealth of knowledge in any area you are interested in looking for long term safety. He even gets into population, crime rates, the laws of the state, politics, and the quality of the soil for food production. I think everyone, not just preppers, could benefit from the plethora of impressive researched information.
Absolutely! Right on point. Thanks for your input @bestlifenow
Love this book once I got out I couldn't put it down
Awesome, yeah it's definitely a good read! Thanks for your input.

I'm selling a home in the heart of the American Redoubt up in the panhandle of Idaho, very close to several survivalists in this movement. We moving to Washington and have to sell our retreat.
Do you have a link to your retreat with photographs that's for sale? If so, feel free to share it.
I do, but prefer to remain semi-anonymous by not connecting my profile to my physical property. But I would like to invite people looking for survival property to seek up in the panhandle of Idaho, Sandpoint area and north. Lot of great people up there.
I completely understand. That is a beautiful area of the country. If you don't mind me asking, why are you relocating to Washington State?
Work and income opportunity. Also to escape state income taxes. Plus it'll still be an easy path to escape back into the redoubt if we have to or even into the Olypmpic peninsula, Canada, or Alaska. We are avoiding Seattle though.
All of that makes perfect sense! Thanks for sharing. I bet you have some awesome photographs to share. Have you posted any?
