Like many preppers and homesteaders, my situation is unique. In this post, I will share a couple of resources that I use for food supplies.
- The main reasons I chose these resources are shelf life and portability.
I started proactively storing emergency food in 2011. I started small with a 72-hour kit from Legacy Food Storage. The shelf life is approximately 25 years. It was easy to purchase, came with free shipping, and had good reviews. As time went on, I moved up to bigger buckets and started to diversify among the food types. The buckets are stackable.

So then I heard about this company which refused a request from the Department of Homeland Security to make a large purchase. I then saw their products on Woot.com at a huge discount. Instead of buckets, these come in stackable totes. The reviews on YouTube were good so I pulled the trigger on a 4-week supply.

So for me it's easier to buy these ready made products that have a long shelf life and are portable. I am interested in canning, salting of meats, etc. but I haven't broadened my horizons in these areas yet.
We did try our hand at gardening of green beans, pickling cucumbers, and green peppers and were fairly successful. I had heard about these survival seed vaults that were non-GMO, and if kept properly stored had a decent shelf life of approximately 5+ years. I keep a couple of these in the refrigerator.

- I do keep some canned food and MRE's on hand for bartering.
Let me know what you do for food preps. I am open to new ideas and learning from members of our community.

Love it! I have the seed storage vault. Haven't heard of the 5+ year shelf life, but I just keep them in the garage nice and dry and cool. My Patriot Supply...I've heard of them but didn't know they offered the stuff in the stack-able totes. That's genius!
I'm a big fan of these buckets:

Of course, when I first purchased them in-store, they came with water filters and a heat source. Looks like they don't include those in the buckets anymore, but it seems like a decent deal to me all the same.
That's a great spot ou chose for the survival seed vault! The My Patriot Supply products are featured on Woot.com at least once a month. If you're lucky enough to get them there, you will save some serious $. I haven't purchased any of the Augason Farms products yet but I like the price for a 30-day supply. The stuff packed inside their bucket looks delicious.
STEEM ONThanks for your input @randomness and
I honestly haven't needed to eat any of it yet, but I figured it would at least supply me a nice variety and it's easily portable. I'll keep an eye on Woot.com. I've never heard of that site before. Thanks!
You are very welcome brother.
Awesome post and good choices. I went with Ready store.com and also have the same ones you do too. I broke down my stores into 3 categories.
Short term--stuff that you can eat now and in the near future with short shelf life.
Mid term-- Things like canned goods and dried products that are not freeze dried.
Long term-- Things freeze dried with a 25 to 30 year shelf life.
Have plenty of food, water and medical supplies on hand is the best defense against this world. People often forget that one of the number one things to secure is water. Without water you will be dead in 3 days or so. Having water stores and ways to filter water is key. I have many ceramic water filters that are silver impregnated to help purify the water. They can be made into a 2 five gallon bucket system that can be portable if needed. Good post!!!!! Keep warning the people!
Your categories are awesome! I enjoyed reading your reply especially about water. I plan to do a post about that very soon. Thanks for your input @saved4newlife and happy Friday fellow Virginian!
LOL working on one for that myself now but this is not a generic water one. It's about getting water when there is none. I have a special tip also that no one in prepping is even thinking about. Never heard it mentioned ever!
I look forward to checking it out and curious to learn about that "ace up your sleeve".
