Hello fellow Steemians and Happy Independence Day! I read a post earlier where a prepper friend of ours was strong in many areas but admittedly weak in medical related subjects. I hope someone finds this information useful because it's often an overlooked area of prepping and homsteading that could actually save a life, if not your own.
A couple of resources that I use:
- A book chock full of great info that can be used as a grid down reference called, "The Survival Medicine Handbook: A Guide for When Help is Not on the Way "
- The nurse on this channel has bona-fide experience in third world countries treating medical conditions after SHTF. Make sure you take a look at her older stuff about medical supplies, prescriptions, antibiotics, etc. I seriously think she'll be joining us here on steemit soon and will become extremely popular very quickly (I'm thinking whale potential folks).

I am going to keep this brief but would like to have a two-way discussion with you on this topic so feel free to reply with comments and/or additional resources you use to accomplish the mission.

STEEM ON

Hey Prep4shtf, Can you possibly check out my most recent post about a sun flare that just happened. It is an X class 10 earth facing and potentially bad situation. We really need to let people know about this. Even if you don't upvote that's fine, but you reach a larger audience and can resteem to get people aware there may be severe issues on the planet within a day or so. This is so people can contact families now. Please help on this. Thanks so much in advance. I posted on an old video so as not to be seen begging. I am not begging for myself though. Thanks and God Bless.
Thanks for posting this. I have experience with emergency medicine and am posting first aid how-to articles. But this only goes so far. It's the long term care without a doctor stuff that we have to know and practice for a shtf situation. You've stopped the bleeding, what now?
You make a great point! Having a nurse on the team will be worth their weight in gold. I will check out some of your how-to articles. We are stronger not only in numbers but also in varied skill sets such as medical.
I wanted to comment so I stay in this thread. While I'm not fully stocked by any stretch, I have a good stock of iodine, colloidal silver, and a reasonably decent supply of gauze. I would add tampons for severe bleeding, maxi pads are also good as gauze. ACE bandages and veterinarian wrap that you can pick up at ranch supply stores. I definitely need to get some fish mox and similar antibiotics, though.
You are well on your way. One of the videos on the channel that I recommended shows specifically the items we can stock up on at a "dollar store". She also has a couple of videos about fish antibiotics. I found an online retailer that suited my needs here:
http://www.fishmoxfishflex.com/index.php/fish-antibiotics.html
Thanks for the link! Also remember to pick up some suture kits and maybe some super glue. Hydrogen peroxide helps, too...but the shelf life is sketchy. I have a few IVs as well, but now that I think about it, no needles!
Get a good staple gun or learn how to put in stitches. Israeli bandage, quick clot, fish antibiotics and essential oils. If you don't know anything about essential oils then dive into that. Anyways just some random pieces, not even close to a complete list.
I agree with all of that you stated. I'm a big advocate for essential oils. Quick clot can be a mess and any wound you need it for will obviously have to be treated by a professional, but when seconds count, that is the stuff to use. Great input!
I'm gonna have to snatch that book up! I'm not the best in the medical field, I just know what they taught me in the Corps. Stop the bleeding, start the breathing, treat for shock. Sucking chests wounds and stuffs. Lol
Haha yeah man. It has so much info that unless you have a photographic memory, this will be a handy reference for lots of stuff. Of course having a nurse, paramedic and/or doctor on your team would be the ideal situation. For those of us who don't have those personnel resources this book helps to fill those large shoes.
Definitely agreed brother. I mean I know a little bit but I'm no open heart surgeon. Haha. This definitely would be a good carry!
Yep got that book along with many others! Good stuff.
Thanks for your input :)
Did you get any Fish Antibiotics like Prepper Patriot nurse said? I spent like $800.00 on a boatload.
I did in fact get some but not from her source. I need to keep track of their expiration and ensure I keep a fresh rotation. I think I spent half of what you did (for less coverage, I'm sure). I also picked up a copy of a Nurse's Drug Guide to help my brain remember dosage amounts, lengths of cycles for adults, kids, etc.
Same. Good job! Yeah don't forget to stock some probiotics too! Antibiotics kill all good and bad bacteria so you will need to replenish the good after taking. I bought mine only as the last possible resort. I invested in a "Silver Lungs" Colloidal silver generator and I make tons of silver solution now. I'll use that for everything first. Antibiotics last.
I love her channel and have been a long time subscriber -- great post.
She's awesome and thanks @mamdini :)
The Patroit Nurse Channel is highly recommended. I was going to post some of her videos on my Steemit blog, but you beat me to it... Nice.
Resteemed and upvoted.
Outstanding and thank you very much!

This book is amazing! Every household should have a copy! Dr.Bones and Nurse Amy have great videos on their YouTube channel that goes along with this book. Patriot Nurse is AWESOME! I hope to take one of her classes since I live in the same city as her. But she travels and teaches everywhere! Her videos are very valuable ❤️ I'm definitely resteem IG this for others 👍🏻
I agree wholeheartedly with you @mylilhomestead and thank you for resteeming this :) I have followed The Patriot Nurse and her boyfriend for a few years now and would like to take the Medical Prep 101 course sometime. I haven't watched any of the Altons' videos but their book is a definite keeper!
Definitely check out their videos and the website Doom and Bloom it has a ton of articles on medical info. Very informative!
I had to laugh. I once heard an interview of the Altons wherein Amy Alton pointed out how she vehemently disagreed with something that Patriot Nurse had said in an earlier interview. Suffice it to say, I don't believe that they all get along all that well.
I've never met Patriot Nurse, but I did have the pleasure of meeting the Altons once at a self-reliance expo and found them both very helpful and friendly. Their website is pretty handy too.
Overall these are both great resources.
Thanks for your input @agsurrection. I haven't watched any of the Altons' videos on YouTube but I found their book extremely useful. I learned a lot from it and it stays locked up in a safe place. That's really cool that you had a chance to meet them. Have you ever purchased any items on their website?
I have not. I have seen examples of what they have for sale and it's quality stuff.
They have some awesome interviews over at www.thesurvivalpodcast.com. Look up "doctor bones" or "doc bones" in the search feature. Patriot Nurse has at least one interview there that I know of as well.
I will check it out. Thanks!
I've been watching her on YouTube for a couple years at least. She used to do videos with Maine prepper who had good YouTube videos as well.
That's great. Have you taken any steps towards preparing for medical issues in the case of shtf? Maine prepper had some great content as well. Thanks for your input @dwhntx!
I actually over the years have bought probably 8 or 9 different kits ranging from first aid to trauma. I actually have it on my to-do list to consolidate these kits and organize them. Where I am lacking is food prep, really need to work on it.
Copy that. I plan to do a post on food preps very soon. I have a couple of resources that I can share to see if they suit your needs.
Look forward to it bro.
