When one says local food, it usually refers to food from their home country or home town. As such, it can be pretty subjective depending where is the home town of that particular person.
In one of my dining experiences, I visited a local kopitiam nearby to my home. Kopitiams are very famous in my home country since in one kopitiam, we would find several eatery stalls, all serving different local dishes. From noodles to rice to snacks and etc.
On this visit, one of the local stalls caught my interest. Serving the famous local chee cheong fun dish from the city of Kampar, Perak was unusual. This city has always been known for this particular dish and if this particular stall can claim that it came from this city, it's got to be really good. I have heard of this specific stall but never got around to trying it.
And since there was no que, I decided to give it a try. There were lots of varieties to choose from; even the chef explained to me the difference of each item and promote his newly created yong tau foo. There were fish paste with mushroom, fish paste with long beans but was caught my eye was fish paste with red dates ! Now.. that is a whole new item to me. It taste really good, having sweet taste as compared to the usual salty taste.
I paid MYR 8.40 for this order which came with a bowl of curry soup and of course a plate of chee cheong fun to accompany my selection of yong tau foo. I give it a 9/10 for this dish and I would definitely return to try out the other new items of the yong tau foo. But, I guess I will have to wait for another 3 months at least.
