Chinese cruller a.k.a You Tiao in Chinese, is a long pair of lightly salted, deep-fried golden-brown dough. It’s famous among Chinese all around the world. It normally eaten at breakfast.
Normally Youtiao are eaten with plain congee or soy milk. But for me, it’s best to soak the YouTiao in a black coffee. The soft texture in the YouTiao absorbs some of the black coffee makes a very special taste. Sounds weird? Well, try it out and you will know what I am talking about.
Sunday morning, locals flooded the morning market is already a usual scene. Apart from buying fresh fruits, meats and vegetables, locals like to have their simple breakfast in the morning market as well. Food that selling in the market are simple, and yet still the best for many.
You will find YouTiao in almost all the morning markets around Chinese community. Taman Cheras morning market is one of them.
The blue color roof makes the building stand out from others.
The breakfast section is not small.
This stall is selling YouTiao and other fried dough. Each pair of YouTiao only cost us RM1 (USD0.30).
Other than YouTiao, I also bought Ma Geok (translate in English as ‘Horse Leg’). Does it look like a horse leg eh? Hummm….
Ham Chim Peng is one of my favorites too. It’s a typr of deep-fried dough with red bean filling.
As I said earlier, a cup of local black coffee is a MUST.
Just soak the YouTiao in the black coffee and enjoy it.
Breakfast can be Simple but Great!
