Cute takeaways for the holidays

Goldilocks Bakeshop is a bakery chain based in the Philippines, which produces and distributes Philippine cakes and pastries.

The Goldilocks brand actually has few restaurants in Metro Manila where diners can enjoy Filipino dishes. I loved their bangus belly sinigang. Years ago, I noticed that their restaurants are declining. It looks like they are focusing more on the bakeshop side of the business.

At first glance, this particular branch along Alabang-Zapote Road in Muntinlupa City seem to have limited items.

I thought they only have cakes as presented by this stand-up tarpaulin by the entrance...

And also affirmed by the displayed products on the shelf.

However, I was surprised and amused when I got inside. In spite of the limited space inside, they have pretty good lines of products on display. The space was maximized for the shelves.

I started to make rounds and check tje shelves. There were these cookies and hopia.

More of cakes through these cake slices of different flavors. Chiffon, mocha, heavenly chocolate (I wonder about the heavenly) and heavenly marble flavors. Now, what's marble cake? The cakes were of a slice size and packed individually. That gives customers the option to have solo serving cakes and even on the go.

Then the peak of my surprise. I literally exclaimed when I saw the canisters on display. Canisters of bagoong, sardines and pre-cooked Filipino dishes. See those packs to the right. Lechon paksiw and dinuguan? Yeah, the best part of entering a bakeshop is to see viands amd not just baking products.

"Seriously!? You also have these products? I thought you're a bakeshop?"

"Yes, ma'am. We also have those products," the crew replied.

Amazing!

But it was fairly early in the morning. I was looking for something for breakfast. I continued my rounds on the shelves and noticed these cute packages. Yes, cute things catch my attention. Polvoron of different flavors!

A polvorón (From polvo, the Spanish word for powder, or dust; Cebuano: polboron; Tagalog: pulburón) is a type of heavy, soft, and very crumbly Spanish shortbread made of flour, sugar, milk, and nuts (especially almonds).

The cuteness that really caught my attention is the colorful packaging specially the pink one. Call it a girl thing!

I thought this packaging can be good giveaways for the holidays. It will be very convenient as there is no need for gift wrapping. Just stick the greeting card and it's done. I remember a former colleague who used to distribute something like this to everyone in the office during Christmas and it was pretty cool. I might give that a try...

Below the ones inside plastic bags are also polvorons in boxes and by two dozens per box. Apparently, the ones above are repacked for smaller quantity of 10 pieces per pack.

I was again looking for something for breakfast but I can not let go of the cuteness. I ordered one pack of *pinipig polboron and a slice of heavenly marble chocolate.

While waiting for the crew to prepare my takeaway, I noticed this sticker near the doorway. So they stay late until 9:00 o'clock at night. That's cool for people on the go who may need to catch up for pasalubong at home.

Here now are my takeaways as I spread them out in the pantry. The marble cake will be a sweet breakfast. The polvorons will be for snacks later...

And I wondered about marble cake so I checked.

A marble cake is a cake with a streaked or mottled appearance (like marble) achieved by very lightly blending light and dark batter.

Here, let's have breakfast. Have a bite!
