This was my first visit to Harvest and I really enjoyed the experience. We will be taking the nephews back to Rochester tomorrow and my wife wanted to treat them to something special.
The restaurant is in a plaza near a Whole Food Market. They have an outside eating area that looks really nice, but we didn't go sit there because we have so many kids. Maybe next time when it's just my wife and the kids, we will do that.
As I walked in, a very nice young lady greeted me at the front door and asked if I had reservation which I promptly replied, "No". She asked me how many and I told her "3 adults, 3 kids, and a baby." She told me to wait a few minutes and they'll set up the table. Within a few minutes, our table was ready and we were seated.
To the right of the greeter is the bar area. It appears to be well-occupied and well-stocked. There are a few big screen TVs showing various sport games.
There is a seating area in the front where some vases and various ornaments sat.
After we sat down, the server asked if we have ever been to Harvest before.
Most of the menu items are under 500 calories (unless otherwise noted). The food is locally sourced and they note the farm the food comes from. It's nice to know that you're eating organic food.
In the backside of the menu, they have a good list of wine, beer and cocktails.
Everyone selected their drink. My wife wanted some wine while I just want some water. (I guess the baby will be sleeping well tonight!)
Our server patiently took our order:
Appetizers:
Jerk chicken flatbread: Jamaican jerk sauce, roasted poblano pepper, mild cheddar, pieces of chicken. It pretty resembles a flatbread pizza.
Avocado & Artichoke Dip: Organic yogurt, tuscan kale, roasted red pepper oil, Naan flatbread, black lava salt
Organic Pork Potkstickers: Blackberry chipotle BBQ glaze, fried green tomato relish, pickled radish
The kids enjoyed the appetizers. They were light and feel like the summer breeze.
Main Entries
Grandma had the seared sea scallops: stone-ground cornmeal, sweet corn risotto, heirloom tomato relish, basil oil, corn shoot, micro basil.
The sea scallops were a little chewy.
My wife had the local grass-fed beef burger: Mild Cheddar, Bibb Lettuce, Heirloom Tomato, Caramelized Onion, Fresh Poppy Seed Onion Roll, Pickle. Burger was nice and juicy. Definitely one of the better burgers out there.
Vincent had the cedar-roasted salmon: Tangerine Mint Yogurt, Roasted Fingerling Potato, Chive Pesto, Seasonal Squash, Asado Grilled Carrot. The salmon was roasted with a bit of salt on a cedar piece of wood. Vincent said that the salmon was juicy but it didn't have much flavor and still had too much of a fishy smell.
Wesley had the cheese pizza, apple slices, and organic apple sauce. I couldn't even finish taking the pictures and the boy already finished his first slice of the personal pan pizza.
Vyvian had the local mac & cheese, apple slices and wild rice. She ate most of her mac & cheese and apple slices, but didn't really touch the wild rice (Grandma ended up eating that for her).
I had the Churrasco flat-iron steak: Roasted Chili Spice, Raspberry Chipotle Creamed Corn, Charred Pepper, Chimichurri, Corn Shoot, Grilled Cornbread Crouton. I can see why the dishes are below 500 calories. The steak was rather puny in comparison to other places.
I had to go dig into the kids' plates and eat all of the appetizers because I couldn't fill myself up with just the steak.
Overall, the food was good. The kids seem to enjoy it so we will likely go back. If you have kids, it's a blessing to find a restaurant that has decent food and they are willing to finish them instead of making faces.
Atmosphere: I enjoyed the atmosphere at this location. Our table was semi-private and we was able to have a conversation as a family. The server was attentive and kept our glasses filled with water. We were fairly close to the kitchen, but pleasantly we didn't get overwhelmed by any food odor.
Price: I think for the amount of food, the price is rather high. I understand it's more about quality than quantity. My piece of steak was really small. But I guess if you have to keep each plate under 500 calories, you do have to reduce portion size.
