Apart from that, we get to understand the various chemistry composition ⚗ to know how each herb is able to cure certain symptoms. During class, the lecturer shared some insights about certain herbs. Share with you!

  1. Ginseng
Ginseng must be at least 6 years old in order to develop 人参皂苷 which provide its medicinal effects. Like the Korean Ginseng, they will state "6 years old" on the packaging.
On another hand, Ginseng is like humans, as they age 👵🏼, they shrink. So a way to differentiate between the young and old Ginseng is to check its weight. If it is short yet heavy, it is a good old Ginseng!

  2. Dyed Gojiberry
Some people worry of buying artificially red dyed gojiberry in the market. 🎨 A way to check is to observe the tip of the gojiberry which looks like a mini white stick. If the stick remains white, the gojiberry is not dyed.

  3. Cassia (Jue Ming Zi 决明子)
Many drink Cassia as a tea to improve eyesight 👀, relief constipation and for slimming purposes. However it is important to know that overconsumption of Cassia overtime may lead to habitual constipation instead. 🚽 So everything in moderation! 💜
