I've ruptured a disk in my back - again
Hey guys I'm back after a bit of a break, I've ruptured a disk again and I haven't been able to sit, stand or even lay day down for more than a few minutes at a time. I've been spending a lot of my time in a home made traction rig which I've rigged up where my pullup bar normally hangs.
I think it was just one disk and there was no broken vertebra, sometimes that re-breaks too and adds a bit of extra fun to the situation. It was quite bad this time and I lost most of the control of the muscles in my legs and my bowels just basically stopped working for about 5 days. If I owned a gun I seriously would have shot myself when I was in the depth of it all.
This has been an ongoing thing for nearly twenty years for me and it's happened more times than I can remember in that time. It didn't get treated at all the first time I broke it so it never healed properly and it just keeps coming back and biting me in the arse a few times each year. Anyway, I've started to come good in the last few days, the nucleus polpuses must have retreated enough to take the pressure off the nerves and I can walk and sit again, I still can't lay on my bed without a lot of pain so I'll guess I'll catch up on all the lost sleep some time in the next few weeks.
So I was watching youtube vids on back injuries and treatments last night and I found this vid of an American chiropractor doing a series of "adjustments" on one of his patients and it seemed like the kind of torture you'd do to someone if you wanted them to confess to something or sign their house over. It was possibly one of the most barbaric youtube vids I've ever seen & I've watched some fairly grotesque stuff before.
This guy was gullible enough to come back for a second "treatment" too. Please don't watch this if you are squeamish and don't like watching people get tortured. I haven't laughed so hard for ages but it really helped me, I felt a lot better after watching that poor bastard go through the star chamber "treatment"
I hope your feeling better!
Thanks @jmehta!
I'm over the worst of it now, it's taking a while to get my mobility back but I'm much better than I was before.
Ouch. Hope you get better soon!
Thanks @choogirl
Ouch no good buddy I have a bit of an idea what you go through as my dad has a slipped disk in his back and the pain and restrictions he gets at times is crazy. Hope you get better quickly mate.

Damn - sorry to hear this. I've learned a lot about the spine with my Mom's accident/surgery, but this chronic issue is something else. I hope you heal up soon. I did not watch the video. For some reason I felt like I should heed to your warning. How long is a general recovery to be somewhat back to normal?
Thanks Matt!
It's much better now. It's the first few weeks after it happens that are the worst. It's like 2 weeks of hell, then another two weeks of low level torture and then a few more weeks of discomfort and relearning all the basic motor skills. It's not quite like learning to walk again but I do have to re-learn all the basic proprioceptive skills again and get the mind muscle connection back online so to speak.
I have so many severed ligaments and tendons in my legs that just walking requires conscious thought when my back is not injured, one wrong step without planning it first and I end up in a faceplant. So after the nerves get compromised I have to relearn all that proprioceptive BS again and regain my mobility and then work at building a bit of strength again.
I started on some light kettlebell work this week.
