Explorin' Poring

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

Work was getting way out hand so when the weekend came, we decided to ditch the hustle & bustle of the city and took a short trip to Langanan waterfalls. Located in Poring hot springs, Ranau; this waterfall is approximately 120m tall! The plan that day was to kick back, relax, hike slowly & immerse ourselves with what mother nature had in store for us! We left Kota Kinabalu at about 5 a.m after grabbing a quick breakfast at the local Mamak joint. Decided to keep the car at a steady pace of 70-80km/h, taking time and just enjoy the drive ahead. The vibe is completely different compared to driving during peak hours of the day! We even made it just in time to witness the sun rising from his slumber, peeking and rising slowly through the majestic Mount Kinabalu. After about 2:30 hour drive from KK, we finally arrived in Ranau! So we grabbed the chance to rest for a while at a local gas station, stretch our bodies and use the loo before continuing our journey to Poring.

Once we arrived at our destination, other visitors have already starting to gather at the park. We found a perfect parking spot located just in front of the guard house, grabbed our backpack which contained all of our valuables, locked the car and headed towards the guard house to buy our tickets and register our names with the management before starting our hike towards Langanan waterfall!

It took us 2 hours just to get to the waterfall from the park entrance. Passing smaller waterfalls and a bat cave in the process too! It rained the night before so the trail is wet and muddy. Muddy and wet conditions also mean one thing, leeches! And loads of them too!😂 Passing through the humid jungle makes you realize that we're just tiny specs in this vast world! It's humbling, makes you realize that nature is fragile and it's up to us humans to protect what God has created for us!

We won't lie, the hike was long & strenuos. But as soon as you're able to hear Langanan's roar, you know that your destination is getting nearer so might as well finish what you've started! And believe us on this, your tiredness will slowly evaporate like the mist as soon as you feast your eyes on the falls. The view is to die for!

After taking pictures and refueling our strength with sandwiches that we brought from home, we decided to head back to the entrance. The journey was totally worth it! So be adventurous and go exploring! Sabah is full of hidden edens and some places are just a few hours drive away, no airplane ticket needed!
