If you ever want to get things done, don't overthink it. Just take the steps to make it happen. Yesterday, I started sneezing early morning and I felt a little low in energy. Not a good sign as I worry it may develop into some form of illness and not the way I wanted to spend my weekend. Decided spontaneously to climb the hill which I have been thinking of since last week.
After dropping the kids at school, I went home put on my hiking gear and drove to the starting point which is 10km away. I kept silent to myself, trying to switch off my inner chatter. You know how its like when you keep on thinking about something to a point you may end up putting off whatever you plan to do. What if....? Is it dangerous? Are you sure you know the way, its your first time? How far is it?
So, I was totally zone in to my "Just Do It " mode. Making my way in ,raised my concern, as the pathway in ,was without signage and covered with grass. The only indication is the little plank walkway crossing the drain. I mustered up my confidence and told myself it will be an adventure.
Swiching my google map apps on, I saw the trail guide which they call it Merinding trail. Really glad to have a reference map to show the way.
The trail is narrow and covered with lalang grass (imperata). Wearing a long pants would keep your legs safe from cuts. But I always felt comfortable with knee length track pants. I only feared of snake but I quickly shift my thoughts elsewhere. Fear does paralyse you from taking action or It could give you super human ability for flight. So, I am trusting my body fight or flight mode will kick in, when I am face with an unwarranted situation. 😊
The rocky part was interesting and a refreshing feeling from the bushy trail. Wish , I had a drone to take an aerial view of the place. With my smartphone as an assistance and also following my gut instinct, I trailed on the rocky path.
I have many times use the word adventure and I decided to google it up on it's definition to fully comprehend its meaning .Cambridge university define it as "an unusual, exciting and possibly dangerous activity or daring experience". Wow, makes me felt like James Bond on a mystery mission. Yes , I love James Bond movie, who don't?
Having an aerial view of a place, its truly gives an intresting perspective of things. You get a better understanding on the place especially when you are always using the route on ground level. It applies to our daily life too. Seeing the big picture makes sense of the little things you are doing.
The trail is 3.7km long depending on the route you take. I found out that there are two routes which would lead me to the main road. By instinct, I decided on the longer route. But I always believe whenever you are at a crossroad. Decide and take any route . It is always better than just standing and still deciding because you lack information. Worst case scenario, you can always turn back or you will learn new ways of doing things.
I am glad that I took the decision to hike because I got a pleasant surprise when I saw my ex workmate (20 years ago) in the first company I have worked in while I was walking back to my car. We did a little caching up by the roadside and manage a selfie with him.
Overall, Its was an awesome experience and I am bringing a group of friends to do this trail next week. The hike was not only about the experience but was a life lessons by itself.
1.) Silent your own critic by taking immediate action.
2.) Seeing the big picture makes sense of the little things you do at the ground level.
3.) Look at the things you do as taking an adventure. You will never know the pleasant surprises and AHA moments you will get.
Treat your journey in steemit as a big adventure. Keep on growing and discovering new things everyday. Dont be discourage from the little payout, or just because you dont have ideas to blog about. Learn from the many experienced steemians and most importantly commit to make it happen.
Oh do I know. Seriously. I'm Glad to have stumbled across your post. Today it seems like my mind's "inner chatter" is more like " incoherent angry mob."
Thank you @diamondray for being the positive voice I needed today.
Glad it help. Cheers
I think our journey on steemit can be considered as an adventure. Maybe not to some but to most steemians. But the difference, you will not find any dangerous activity on it. Unless you want it.
Thank you for sharing your thought and hope that the trekking kept your sneezing away from you.
Cheers.
Yes, it did. Need to warm up the body and get it running. 😀
Very nice post @diamondray.. i always wanted to try hiking.. but lack of friends into it.. would love to try it out someday..
Yeah, we'd love to go for hiking. Perhaps you can organize one for Labuan steemians @diamondray?
