Short Explanation About Sabahan Language
There's so much reason to love and impress about Sabah. The food, history, culture, multiracial, friendly, especially the unique language which we called Sabahan Language/Slang. Its a little bit similar to Malay language, but more unique. For example:
-you do not understand me, I just want to eat fried rice (english)
-kau tidak memahami saya, saya cuma ingin makan nasi goreng (malay standard)
-ko tida faham sa bah, sa cuma mo makan nasi guring (sabahan standard)
Notice the differences? But what's the meaning of "bah" in that sentence?? Now that my friend, is a magical word for Sabahan people.
What does "bah" means??
Stop wasting your time on dictionary, cause' its not listed along. This might get you confuse, but I try my best to explain it, even majority of Sabahan people also facing difficulty in explaining this to other non-sabahan. So here we go...
"Bah" is a word that work as an additional word that has a different meaning on different sentence. "Bah" can be use at the beginning , middle, or end of a sentence (depends on the sentence, not every sentence is suitable).
EXAMPLES :
(Beginning of a sentence)
-Where are you now? (english)
-Awak di mana sekarang? (malay standard)
-Bah, ko di mana sekarang? (Sabahan standard)
(Middle of a sentence)
-You're from England, right? (english)
-Awak dari England kan? (malay standard)
-Ko dari England bah ni kan? (Sabahan Standard)
(End of a sentence)
-I'm tired too (english)
-Saya pun letih juga (malay standard)
-Sa pun panat bah (Sabahan standard)
That's just some of the simple sentence out of thousands. More over, a Sabahan will answer "bah" when they agree with you, its similar to "ok".
EXAMPLE :
-Yes, I agree with you (english)
-Ya, saya bersetuju dengan anda (malay standard)
-Bah. (sabahan standard)
That's it for now steem-ians! Ciaaaooooo~~~~~~
