Today I visited FUIYOH! It’s Uncle Roger Restaurant at ICP Mall located near Mutiara Damansara.

Uncle Roger is a fictional character created and portrayed by Malaysian comedian Nigel Ng. The character gained widespread fame on social media, especially on YouTube, for his humorous and exaggerated critique of cooking videos, particularly focusing on Asian cuisine. Uncle Roger’s distinct personality includes a thick Malaysian-Chinese accent, a love for MSG, and an obsession with the “proper” way to cook egg-fried rice. His tagline phrases like “Fuiyoh!”, “Haiyaa,” and “Uncle Roger disapprove!” have become iconic, making him a cultural internet phenomenon.

The Uncle Roger-themed restaurant showcases a vibrant, playful setting with bright orange and yellow tones dominating the decor. The interior design reflects a modern and energetic vibe, featuring metal mesh elements on the ceiling and neon signs, reinforcing a casual and trendy dining atmosphere. The space has a clean and organized layout with simple furniture, suitable for a quick meal or a casual dining experience.

after looking at the menu, I ordered their egg fried rice which cost RM18.55 after including the 16% service tax.

The egg-fried rice served in this restaurant is plated on a custom-branded plate bearing Uncle Roger’s catchphrases. The dish is garnished with fried shallots, sliced cucumbers, fresh scallions, and a "Fuiyoh! Uncle Roger Approved!" tag. It appears well-cooked with evenly fried grains and a balanced blend of seasonings.

Egg fried rice has its origins in ancient China, possibly during the Sui Dynasty (589–618 CE), as a way to repurpose leftover rice and ingredients. It likely began in Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province, which is why "Yangzhou fried rice" is famous. Adding eggs made it a simple, flavorful, and nutritious dish.

As Chinese immigrants spread globally, fried rice adapted to local tastes. Southeast Asia incorporates fish sauce and sambal, Japan has "chahan," and Western versions feature diverse vegetables and meats.

Egg fried rice symbolizes resourcefulness and comfort, evolving into a universally beloved dish found everywhere from street stalls to fine dining.
