Hi again my dear stemian friends. Few days ago I've posted about superstitions in America. Please visit my post here: https://steemit.com/teammalaysia/@verasj/superstitions
I became more and more interested in this topic. Called me ancient or whatever..I know in today's era, only few peoples believe in such thing.
Anyway, as I mentioned ealier, I got hook in the topic and began to do more search on others countries belief and superstitions. Today, I want to share some of the belief in Japan.
TERU TERU BOZU (the Sunny Doll)
Little round headed dolls made of white cloth that can bring forth sunny toys. The Japanese believe that it will not rain when they put a sunny doll hanging from the eaves. The Japanese would hang up sunny doll on the day before sports day or a picnic to pray for a sunny day. Some said that it would rain if the doll is hung upside down.
CRAVING FOR ROMANCE
When there is a plane flying in the sky, make a photo-taking gesture with your hand as if you are snapping the photo of the plane. 100 times after you do this, you will be with the person you like. Wow... this one I need to share with my friend @kilathecla
SNEEZING
The Japanese take sneezing as a sign which indicates that someone is talking about you. Sneezing once means someone, talking good about you, twice means someone's bad-mouthing you: thrice means someone has a crush on you. Four times or more means that you've caught a cold. Need to share this with @beverlyjoe and @melindajamulis ..interesting right!
TOSO WINE
During the new year celebrations from 1st and 3rd January the Japanese drink toso wine to indicate eradication of evil and wish for a healthy year ahead. The wine drinking usually starts from the young, and followed by the elderly a sequence which indicates the young one passing on vogour to the elderly to wish them longevity.
WOODEN CHOPSTICKS
The Japanese love chopstick made of willow, which represents auspiciousness. It is believed that willow trees are divine as they help drives out evil. The Japanese use willow chopsticks during wedding ceremonies and celebrations. Another type of chopstick is known as futobashi, of which both edges are sharp one to be used by God and the other, human. The Japanese believe this is the way to strengthen their connection with God.
MANEKI-NEKO (the Beckoning Cat)
Maneki-neko is the beckoning cat figure which have one of its forepows raising up in a waiving gesture, as if waving and attracting good luck. Businessmen put it in their shops to pray for prosperity in business. It is said that Maneki-neko is waving its right paw in inviting good fortune while one that is raising its left paw is inviting customer. There are also Maneki-neko that raise both of its paws but that would be deemed to greedy. A Maneki-neko is usually white in color. A black coloured one is believed to be ward off evil and misfortune. @arwine @ivora @kilathecla if you guys open a restaurant someday, please buy this..it attract good fortune $$$.. LOL
All the above are based on the information in the internet. These beliefs are so interesting to know and thousand apologies if I have posted wrong informations or offended any parties ya.. Education is endlessly and sharing is caring 😉😉😇
That's all for now, will do some research on other countries superstitions and beliefs soon.
