To become initiated into St Bathans it is customary to 'go through the hole'. The hole is a hole in the wall at the St Bathans pub, The Vulcan. There have been many a person go through this hole, if you ask the staff nicely they might show you the album with lots of photos of people going through it. It is now considered a health and safety risk and is therefore 'Closed'. However there is nothing like being a tad sneaky and when the staff are either stocking the fridge or cooking your chips you can get up and through the hole. The picture at the top is of me supermanning through the hole :)
There have been quite some stories as a result of getting through or attempting to get through the hole. One man, I wont name names, got stuck in it, and no one could get him out. He ended up having to leave the way he came, with the hole, its an old mining pipe, attached around his waist. Everyone then proceeded to strip him down and lube him up, grease, soap, lard everything was used. To get the pipe off, that is. Which they did, much to the happiness of the gentleman in question.
If you head out to the pub, any day of the week and ask for some stories about the hole, you will no doubt be told some pearlers, and maybe you can sneak through while no ones looking :)
