South African's are a patriotic bunch but only really realise it once they leave the country, this could be on holiday, a business trip or immigrating for opportunities or promise of a better life somewhere in the world.
It is only after we leave our borders that we realise how much we love our country and the creature comforts we grew up with, especially our homegrown snacks and treats.
We all know local is lekker for a reason, so we've put together the South African snack survival guide.
This checklist is ideal for South African's who are missing home and can't remember those snacks they fell in love with and need a refresher course.
It can also be used when planning to pack for an overseas trip or when you need to smuggle a few snacks across the border to comfort friends and family based overseas.

I'm so relieved to see Ouma Rusks and All Gold Tomato Sauce on this list. I'm not sure where Chomp chocolates actually come from, but it's one of the few chocolates that survived all these years. I miss Cadbury's Yes/No chocolate...
I have a bit of an addition to Ouma Rusks i'll openly admit that.
LOL Wow i forgot all about the Yes/No that was such a big thing when it came out cant believe they dont make it anymore. I do miss holly mollys and fresca too lol nothing tastes like fresca
When I was a kid, there used to chocolate flavoured Frisco coffee. I wish they still made that...
That was a thing? OMG I didn’t even know that lol

Im not an expat so cant relate but I loved looking at the list to see if there is anything I eat on a daily basis. I love Tex, biltong, amarula and rooibos tea. Not very big on the rest.

What about marmite? I know someone who never leaves the country without it! lol
Isn't marmite available in the UK? Also, I'm pretty sure my English family hate it lol! I for one am a marmite fan. I realise its not for everyone but put it on cheese see if it doesnt change your mind lol.
Bovril and Mrs Balls chutney also available in the UK and Aus.... #justsaying - Both UK inventions if I have my facts straight. Along with Fraebentos!
I love both marmite and bovril - they both have their place. Hate Fraebentos lol
I did not know that lol You learn something new everyday Indeed the brits also love our stuff, cheeky nandos perhaps?
Umm... yes Nandos and also in the UK - someone I grew up with is a high-up at Nandos in the UK. Go figure! LOL
And, while I'm at it, you know there's a poll for the 20k delegation going on. I'm a member of @steemitbloggers now rebranded as #powerhousecreatives - would you vote for us?

It also occurs to me that this is a community you'd both benefit, and enjoy being a part of. Let me know if you're interested ;)
