Well Hive Folks, Life has caught up with me and it’s been months since I even looked at Hive or posted, but time to get back in the saddle so finally here goes.
I have been looking at the new format M4 Mac Mini since it came out in October last year but the lack of a decent docking station for USB A peripherals has put me off and I was reluctant to replace my M2 Mac Mini and Dock as both are working fine.
Even the new base model M4 Mac machine has had some great reviews and it’s new and shiny so who can resist that for long certainly not me. So a few minutes on Amazon (currently even cheaper than going to Apple direct) and a day later it’s arrived.
Out of the box the form factor is a little smaller it has twice the RAM but still only 250gig on the base model but that has been enough up to now as I save all of my data to hard drive and memory built in from Apple is so expensive.
Unfortunately the Raycue dock is going to take a few weeks to arrive so no extra USB ports for now but it’s time to dust off the 3D printer and make a temporary stand from Thingiverse.
The other advantage with the 3D printed stand is it gives a nice storage bay for the M2 data drive from my old Raycue dock under my M2 Mac Mini.
Using Mac Time machine backup from my M2 Mac Mini setting up and migrating everything over took a little over an hour but it all seems to be running fine and dandy.
So there you have it Hivers a new shiny M4 Mac mini on my desk I can’t wait for the docking station to arrive and finish everything off.
