I had a week off work this week and decided to spend some of my time in the mountains.
I haven't been for a while due to covid and then tourists flocking to the mountains when the lockdown was eased.
We chose to go up via the Minffordd Path which ascends sharply up step steps for around 350m until you reach Llyn Cau a glacial lake in the basin of the mountain.
This was taken on the ascent up the steps, the mountains behind are dwarfed by the time you reach the top. This section of the walk is called Nant Cadair Gorge and has some waterfalls which unfortunately I didn't take a photo of.
We stopped off here for around an hour with the Dogs and had a good swim. The water was very cold, however, that is to expect from a Glacial Lake. It is around 50m in depth in the middle!
After the swim, we started the ascent up towards the summit. There are a few peaks on the way including Craig Lwyd. Once you have passed Craig Lwyd you are around 600m up.
The next little peak is called Craig Cau, this looks like something out of Jurassic Park and it's beautiful but steep. The path turns to scree and a scree scramble on the way up. There is a stunning view from up here and you can look down on Llyn Cau the lake.
From Craig Cau it is now the ascent to the summit, which is a scramble. Lino loved it! Where you are then greeted at the top with the clearest views across Wales. You can see Barmouth Beach and right across to the Clwydian Mountain Range which is not to far from my house, considering we drove nearly 2 hours to get there!
