The itch to develop an app is gathering momentum in my brain. I was working on learning the Kotlin programming language through a series of video classes. Alas, I had to re-install my operating system from scratch, and completing the work seemed to be on hold, until this week.
What I plan to do first is start back at the beginning of the video classes, get to where I left off, and continue forward. From there I may look at a follow-up book and then start developing apps on my own. The apps would get progressively more difficult and complex, with the final one being potentially highly disruptive.
The first app would be simple. A sort of "answering machine" for text messages. The app would send a reply if that I was driving, and I could see a version that would give the eta based on data from Google Maps, etc.
Once I get that under my belt, I would proceed to the next stage. This would either be an app for reading, storing and organizing business cards, using the camera. Something to manage memes, perhaps by tagging them, is another idea; I am having more and more trouble finding the right meme. The idea of a "digital wallet" app that could work with the GNUCash program has also crossed my mind.
The final app may be a combination of the other two. The idea is a location-enabled video app; an app that could capture videos and then tag the video with the location. The video would be sent to a database where they could be displayed on a website. The inspiration for the is the "Mobile Justice" app that many chapters of the ACLU have. I could see a group like CopBlock making use of this app.
