Don't Mess With My Privacy!

in #tech5 years ago

I got myself a fairly large Christmas present this year. I am now the proud owner of a 2012 Nissan Versa! I am still trying to figure out some of the quirks of the car; it took me a few days to learn how to open the rear hatch, and I haven't put gas in it yet.

An updated car brings a need to update insurance. I see the ads on television for insurance companies that use smartphone apps to monitor and reward good driving habits. I realize those rewards may come at the price of privacy. Those apps will know where I've been. I have watched enough episodes of the Law and Order franchise to realize that the data from the EzPass transponders can be used to track ones travels; the data from these insurance apps could be exploited the same way.

I wonder if some of my apprehension at downloading these apps is from what I know about how devices can be used to track someone, my activism, or a bit of both.
