If you're newbie to pentesting luckily there are tons of good resources out there. If youre not familiar with unix based operating systems, like linux distros (ubuntu, arch, debian, etc.) you may want to start out with something like overthewire bandit. if you dont have a solid foundation of networking, then I highly recommend that you learn a ton about networking. if you already have a programming/scripting language under your belt thats even better
after all that id recommend either hackthebox or tryhackme. tryhackme is a CTF site with alot easier/handholdy introductions to basic pentesting. id also recommend at this point to watch people like ippsec to see their methodology and how they approach boxes like hackthebox
then hack your way into hackthebox and just go from there
thats a pretty laid out path for pentesting, and theres a ton of different paths that you can go instead of this one.
