My Summer of Windows

My Summer Of Windows.

The new computer is running great. For the most part, I'm really happy I decided to try out the Jumper ezBook X4. It sucked that the first one had a bad power supply. I'm just happy I discovered it as soon as I got it. It would have been terrible to of had it for a couple of weeks, then discover it had to be sent back.

So I got the power supply issue straightened out, and had to update the drivers on the second one they sent. I'm happy to announce the new laptop now runs like I expected it would. A few tweaks and I've got a really cool laptop! I'm happy with my choice. For under $300 USD, The Dood couldn't be happier! I'll do part 2 of the laptop review later this week.

As some of you may recall, I started having computer problems towards the beginning of last summer. My faithful Dell Inspiron had died leaving me with only my Chromebook to work with. Not wanting to buy a new computer at the time, I thought it would be fun to see if I could work exclusively with a Chromebook for the summer. It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot about using a Chromebook. Everyone seemed to enjoy the series too. Honestly, by the time it was over, with the exception of getting past the small hard-drive (size really does matter), I really could have stuck with using a Chromebook full time. The hard-drive size was a deal breaker for me though.

As many of you know, The Dood is a staunch Linux man. I've dabbled with the OS since the mid-90s, and I've been a full-time Linux user since the introduction of Windows8. I think I've used mainly Linux for the last 5 years or so. I thought it would be fun to do a Summer Of Windows series. Just like the Chromebook series, I'll spend the summer working exclusively with Windows10 on the Jumper ezBook X4.

I've been using Windows10 full time for a week now. I was planning on wiping the drive and installing Ubuntu on the new laptop right away. It has been a long time since I used a Windows PC and I thought it would be fun to see what I thought about Windows 10 and how it compares to being a full-time Linux user. I will admit, I like the way the OS runs on this PC, and I've also found a few of the newer features intriguing to say the least. For instance the basic AI of Cortana.

I should state, that I'm in no way a Microsoft fanboy. It could also be said, that I loathe the software giant. In the past, I've described Windows as "clunky, bloated, over-priced software". I will say, that after using Windows 10 for the week, I'm a bit intrigued. Will my opinion change by the end of the summer? I certainly changed my mind about the Chromebook after I used one for the summer! I'm OK with changing my mind and by using it for a summer I'll be able to give Microsoft the fair review they deserve.

Over the next four months, I'll be living off a Windows 10 Notebook. I'll post regular updates of how it's going and my final thoughts after Labor Day. I'll see how it compares to using Linux full time. Talk about what I like and what I don't like. I'll also do regular updates on how the Jumper ezBook X4 is holding up.

Hope you decided to follow along on this journey and find it as entertaining as the Chromebook series. Cheers!

Good luck my friend I can't stand any version of Windows. You are a better man than I...

Thanks, I'll need all the luck I can get. It should be fun, hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised with the results.
