Being the first presentation on that stage for the day was a huge advantage. HIVE could be the first and only thought on everyone's mind and also set the tone for the rest of the day. All if done right.
But is it easier said than done?

20 days ago, a team of 5(7) were sent to Techex Europe 2024 in Amsterdam. On day 2, @mcsamm would present his DHF funded project to the attendees of the Human Centered Approaches to DTX.
But disaster struck.
Last year, I had recorded the presentation and it is still on my blog. You might have to scroll down a bit on my blogs to find the video. This year, Sam has presented the project in other places and it has grown a lot more. This year, he can't make it to TechEx.
The theme of the presentation day is a very misunderstood one. It is an idea that can be misconstrued in many ways and if the message is not clear and vague, the topic just becomes another box on a bullshit bingo card.
It is safe to say we held on till the last moment for Sam and Colinz to show up. But when it was absolutely certain that circumstances wouldn't allow for it, I got down to preparation.
Preparation lasted about an hour at best. Went through the slide packs, brushed up my engagement skills, and ran between cities for a single piece of hardware equipment that, to be very honest, saved the presentation. (You might have to watch the video to understand).

Clearly I look tired. The morning started very early and I was on about 5 hours of sleep after finishing day 1 and many other things.
It's time.
I am very passionate about HIVE. I'm passionate about the different ways HIVE impacts people's lives and the difference it can make. I have been on both the giving and receiving end of HIVE. It puts me in a unique place to talk - coz I can do it from my heart.
I'm trying to look for the paper I used to write down a few notes. It included ideas about the acoustics, the stage itself, a few doodles and just 1 line that I really really wanted to use.
Yes, one line was written down. The rest? From the heart.
If I'm going to talk about Human Centered Approaches of HIVE, then I can talk from a human perspective. I don't need much else.
Shout out to @priyanarc who recorded the video and played a huge part when the questions post-presentation started pouring in. We were only 3 Hivers and if she, who travelled from a whole different city and made it on time, wouldn't be there, it'd be even harder for me and Ruben.
The audience was very engaged and attentive. I was able to gather their focus and a lot of interest in following up was evident. People participated with me, took pictures, smiled and even reflected.
There were powerful questions asked in the Q&A slot. In fact, the night before Ruben and I had spoken to a few people who were very interested in the presentation that they had promised the prior night to attend.
I'd say it went very well. The message was clear and my target to represent the project in its fullest and show it for not any less than what it is hit the mark.
We had a lot of people who stayed behind to talk to the team and know more about hive. Much of which was done at the HIVE networking bar.

You're speech flows very well. Well structured, good pace, and very few filler words. You're a good speaker! Thank you for telling the story of the Ghana boreholes project and how HIVE helps people thrive (not just survive). That's actually pretty catchy.
Thank you. I was on sleep debt and just an hour of main prep, maybe could have been better otherwise. But got the job done nevertheless.
"Thrive, not survive" is the moto I use for all my community events and social efforts I conduct in the Netherlands. I find it catch to :)
