"Recent neurophysiological studies indicate that exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) generated by mobile phone radiation can exert effects on brain activity."
That is the first sentence of the abstract of a new study investigating the effects of so-called "mobile phone chips" in potentially reducing such interaction. For those who believe that "there is nothing to worry about", you are invited to re-read that statement.

I therefore just wish to highlight a few findings.
Firstly, the "mobile phone chips" are, from what I can gather, not really electronic chips, but rather dielectric shields. The ones used in this experiment are manufactured by Gabriel-Tech, a German company whose website does include a few pages in English. The paper appears to show that such chips do work, but no mechanism is offered for their efficacy. Indeed, the authors state that this is the first such study on whether these "shields" do have any effect.
The image below highlights the EEG results for beta activity (13-30 Hz).
"The increase in brain activity primarily in the frequency ranges beta and gamma [31-70 Hz] indicates an enhanced excitability of the brain under mobile phone associated EMF exposure as shown in the placebo chip or no chip conditions." Note that the experiment included an Attention Test to eliminate the possibility that such increases in brain activity are due to a focus on the phonecall itself.
Furthermore, "This external stimulation of brain activity induced by mobile phone EMF exposure suggests that it can interfere with cognitive functions associated with the frontal cortex, i.e. attention and working memory, and reaction times."
This study was commissioned by the foundation Stiftung für Gesundheit und Umwelt (SfGU) [Foundation for Health and Environment], Berlingen, Switzerland.
As I have said before, the issue of mobile phone EMFs is not just about science and technology, it is primarily about health - everyone's health.
