As famously said by Arthur C. Clarke, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to magic.”,
4k monitors are one of such magic.
In the modern time of technology, as we see sensational inventions on an everyday basis and new devices appearing daily, Advancement in displays and screens is also happening. Ultra-High Definition or “UHD”, famously known as 4K monitors are one of the examples of this advancement.
As we know that currently used Standard high definition resolution is 1080p (1920 × 1080), 4k offers almost double as it is 3840 p in width (Horizontal) while 2160 in height (vertical). The name came from the reason that it has almost 4000 horizontal pixels.
The size or aspect ratio of such screens is same as of other conventional or mostly used monitors, which is 16:9 but the horizontal pixels in 4K is double of the traditional ones and the same goes for vertical side, which provide 4 times the total pix count of other traditional displays.
It can be used like any other display for PCs and also can be used as a TV. Initially there was a limited hardware support for TV like HDMI was only able to support 30 frames per second and 4k designed TV shows and games were needed, but now it can be used as TV too with advancement in hardware.
But the main usage is when it is connected to a supporting PC. By supporting PC, we mean the video graphics card should be a 4k resolution supported. It is more convenient to use it with PCs because Operating Systems - Mac, Linux and widely used Windows can support higher pixel density. The effect would be more noticeable as you are more nearer to it as compared to TV.
The 4 times higher pixel density means sharper pictures with better clarity and more vibrancy. Also, larger screens can be made without the fear of losing picture quality.
From a business point of view, it can be very useful, we have seen many people in offices who use more than one screen for their daily operations. These can be replaced with a single 4k monitor connected to a single power cable, eliminating higher usage of electricity and also can be accommodated in less disk space.
From a gaming point of view, it can also be a replacement of 1080p as the sharp 4k image provide more detail, but an upgradation of gaming card would be needed for such operations. Also, the effect would be clearer with new games like CRYSIS 3 because more benefit can be taken from better graphics and textures.
For graphic designers it can be handier, because the high pixel density allows to see little details in graphics, even without zooming, and if zoomed the clarity and sharpness of picture are not shattered.
After the above discussion, we can conclude that 4k monitors possess the ability to replace all traditional monitors due to high resolution and 4 times more pixel density. It will indeed revolutionize modern day businesses and will replace normal TVs used in homes.
Very detailed post. Great job.
