United States: Facebook to hand over Russian political advertising to Congress
Copies of the 3,000 political ads broadcast on Facebook by Russian Internet users around the 2016 US presidential election will be handed over Monday to the US Congress, the social network said.
Last month, Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company would provide these copies to Congress committees investigating suspicions of Russian interference during the election campaign.
The group said on Sunday that the documents would be delivered on Monday.
Facebook has already provided information related to these advertisements bought by dozens of accounts based in Russia to the special prosecutor Robert Mueller, in charge of an independent investigation into these alleged interferences, it was learned last month from source close to the file.
Moscow denies any interference in the campaign that resulted in the victory of Donald Trump.
Facebook specifies that copies of advertisements, as well as metadata, such as how they were targeted and their individual cost, will be submitted to the Senate Intelligence and House of Representatives, as well as to the Senate Judiciary Committee .
The group said last month that Russian-backed political announcements, totaling $ 100,000, focused largely on amplifying polemic messages on topics such as immigration, racial the rights of homosexuals.
