Mercedes-Benz Future Bus
Mercedes presented his new autonimic city bus named Future Bus.
Public transport is growing very fast, increase demand for city buses. Cities are paying more attention to ecology. The number of electric buses and hybrids is increasing. The next step may be the model presented by Mercedes, which does not need a driver.
Tests future buses were carried out in Holland. Bus ran alone 20km from Haarlem to airport Amsterdam-Schiphol. For now the bus is during tests and is not autonomic is 100% but this is matter of time and current legal regulation must be updated.
Mercedes Future Bus is equipped with City Pilot system. Several cameras is scanning road and environment, radars and distance sensors are monitoring a space behind and before a bus. With the data merger all the information gathered provides an extremely accurate image, enabling the position of the bus to be accurate to one centimeter.
According to Mercedes, Future Bus is more fuel efficient than a normal city bus. The system is designed to accelerate, brake, or shift gears in an optimal way.

As a City Bus Driver, I would love to drive this bus before I retire but probably will not happen for me at 53 years old!
