The younger generation in Indonesia seems to enjoy and embrace new technological developments today. However, few are aware of the technological impact that will occur in our lives. Industry 4.0 is often mentioned, but do we really understand what it means from it all ?
Industry 4.0, also known as the fourth industrial revolution, is the tendency to use automation and data to perform everyday tasks. One of the biggest concerns is with Industry 4.0 and with disruptions occurring in the job market.
Rapid technological developments are set to replace people at work. McKinsey estimates that 800 million jobs will be lost due to automation by 2030. Some people may think that this job is a job with low skills. Therefore, holders of university degrees or so called educated need not worry too much about being replaced by machines, because they will be considered skilled workers.
While it is true that low-skilled workers today are the most affected groups, even very rapid technological developments can now replace human skilled jobs as well. Technology has surpassed and replaced the power of human muscles by being trained to perform cognitive tasks. Artificial intelligence, blockchain, chatbots are some of the many technologies that have been and will continue to eliminate human jobs as well.
While this does not mean that we do not have the chance to survive in a highly digital world, the younger generation must be ready for the next wave of automation and machine learning a few years later.
To survive in Industry 4.0, here are some tips to minimize potential and be replaced by technology in the future :
📌 Choose A Tech-related Career
The first and clear way to avoid technological competition in the job market is to be a technological inventor, creator and innovator. Twelve of the 20 most promising future jobs according to the LinkedIn report in 2018 are tech-related jobs. This shows that knowledge and skills related to the current technology are in great demand among many people and will be highly desirable in the future. Therefore, shifting your career toward more technology-related, learning how to code, or getting a degree in computer science will probably be the safest way to not be replaced by today's technology.
📌 Look Ahead, Not Back
While a career-related technology may be a good choice, this does not mean that everyone should be a software engineer or data scientist. The future of high-tech world will require all professionals in fields other than technology. However, we must be strategic in choosing a career today by looking at the future, not now or in the past.
Industry 4.0 brings so much uncertainty to the job market that forces us to change our mindset about our future career. People in the early stages of his career can no longer choose a profession based on the current situation or in the past.
Forget about how easily our uncle made money by doing his work. A prestigious career today may not be prestigious tomorrow. For example, being a banker may sound like a dream job in the past or even today. Unfortunately, the development of this kind of technology, the usual artificial intelligence is predicted to cut 30 percent of banking work in the next five years.
Any anticipated work in the future requires a very different skill compared to the work we know today. Therefore, we should not be prepared to do work in the past, because they are no longer relevant in the future.
📌 *Stay Informed *
If you learn how to encode or understand the Internet infrastructure, too much work, how about staying informed and updated about current and future technologies? Recognizing yourself with the evolving technologies of today and what can happen in the future will also help you make better career decisions.
For example, blockhain makes it possible to fill the institutionalized gaps and beliefs that we often encounter by safely recording transactions between two parties. Knowing this today helps us imagine what jobs might be affected in the future and shift our career interests accordingly. In the case of blockchain, we no longer need to be surprised if the notary or tax consultant, two of the most sought-after and important jobs today, will be replaced by a smart contract in the nearest future.
📌 Consider Arts or Sports
Sport and art is not a popular career choice for young people in Indonesia, due to the high level of insecurity, financial, and instability associated with them. However, sports and art may be the most resistant industries today and in the future.
We enjoy sports stars and celebrities, because they are human with talent. Imagine having 22 robots trying to score and winning a soccer game or listening to a robot singer who achieved the high notes. It will not be as interesting as watching a world cup or going to concerts.
You must begin to consider art or sport for a career, especially if you are born with the right talent.
New technologies destroy and create jobs at the same time. They become smart in choosing a career today, and hopefully will help us avoid becoming one of those people who will be replaced by technology tomorrow.
Technology may be a useful servant today but turn into a dangerous host in the future.
This is all for tonight, and for those of you who are fasting, hopefully my post tonight will help you in future knowledge.
A third of the professions may simply disappear in the next ten years - due to the fact that the work on these specialties can be performed by robots. Progress will help, for example, the tax authorities, which will be able to audit the enterprises without direct departure to the company. I feel in the coming years people should beware of their workplace and, probably, prepare for a change of profession.
Of course
