To NVidia Miners Thinking of Building a Rig, It's Time to Shit or Get Off The Pot! 💩

in #technology7 years ago

Newegg is out of stock

If you are currently thinking of building an NVidia mining rig for mining equihash coins like Zcash, Zclassic, Bitcoin Gold etc. You better act quick. I wish I had found the video pasted below a week or two ago. I was waiting for bitcoin to make a rally before I sold a bit to buy some ASUS 1080 Ti STRIX graphics cards. That was a bad idea since I was not the only one doing so.

Amazon prices are creeping

I spent most of today being disappointed that someone had bought up all the cards at every shop in the city that had them listed as in stock. Newegg, who raised their prices last week is now out of stock. Prices on Amazon are creeping up. In the end I was able to find them at a good price but they were running out quickly from that source as well.

Pull the trigger!

If you want to build an NVidia rig in the short term and know a source that currently has them in stock, I highly recommend you pull the trigger and make the purchase. Mining fever is taking hold and NVidia gpus are getting harder and harder to find. The struggle is real folks!

Hah, I'm just in the process of building one :) I don't know why people use AMD cards - NVIDIA is much more efficient now. tip!

I am also thinking about building a 6 GPU rig, that will be my first one. But gosh it costs a fortune as far as I am concerned.

Does NVIDIA support miners? AMD now has a special driver for blockchain (Miners) that adds pretty much hashrate. NVIDA and AMD both perform pretty equal imo. they both have pros and cons.

I have an Nvidia card but it does not recognize it, since it seems its design is old, I want to buy another card but I do not have enough money. hehehe

A couple days ago I found an ebay seller with cards in stock and tried to buy 5 of them, but because it was a large purchase I got an automated call from my bank asking if I had authorized the transactions. I didn't get to my phone fast enough to answer, but I listened to the voicemail, called back right away, and confirmed that I had authorized it.

Then I checked ebay and it said that my order still wasn't paid. I checked PayPal (which I paid through using my debit card) and the transaction wasn't there at all. I checked my bank account and the transaction wasn't there either!

I contacted the seller and asked if they received the payment and then got a message a few hours later saying that they had no record of the order at all! Worst of all, by this time they were all sold out!

That experience was a prime example of the type of problems that cryptocurrency is going to eliminate.

Classic supply and demand at work. Mining is literally the best thing ever to happen to AMD/NVIDIA. These companies have literally multiplied their stock because of demand from mining.

However, as a miner, the competition for GPUs can be very annoying. It's difficult to find anything anywhere. My first build, a 6x1060, took a month to put together because I couldn't find anything locally. I had to take a risk and order out of the country! I also ended up paying slightly more because I bought 3 fan 1060s instead of 1-2 fans. Sure, the rig is VERY quiet. However, it wasn't worth the price increase.

Great post btw, ALWAYS pull the trigger. This market moves fast. Everything could be gone off the shelves tomorrow and back the day after tomorrow.

Oddly enough at the end of the day the cards I order and should be on their way from the other side of the country (the side closer to China) are the best ones possible for the absolute cheapest price online. These are the prices from a few weeks ago.

Sounds like you still made out well despite your situation!

Now I just have to stay lucky and make my money back mining over the next few months. It would be a shame not to try out some VR games too with all this top of the line gaming gear.

Moment of self reflection..
. Reading this while taking a shit... and thinking about building at ETH rig.... ironic?

I m not blaming AMD but Nvidia is much fast and efficiant chip

Nice post, delay can be detrimental at times. Mining is quite lucrative these days and it would continue to be as more people and institutional will be coming into the crypto-currency world this year.

You are not kidding. Took me forever to find another card and then had to pay more than I wanted. If you find them buy them, or please let me know. :)
