What is the Apple Ecosystem? Probably the most comfortable cage you’ve ever been in. I’ve referenced a few times before in my HomePod review. The ecosystem can be best described as a system of great functionality that works between all Apple devices.
Some examples of what I’m talking about could be AirDrop between devices. If you took a picture on your phone and wanted it on your laptop, you’d commonly have to boot up your email, attach the photo as a file, and then open it up on your laptop. What AirDrop does is allow the photo to get instantly dropped to your laptop from your friend. If your iCloud accounts are linked, for instance, it automatically transfers as soon as you take it.
The idea of the ecosystem is to make all Apple devices work between one another. Calls, messages, texts, emails, apps, photos, bluetooth devices, and more are all seamlessly integrated between each Apple device. All your data is synced across the board. This sounds pretty cool on paper, right? Well, not so fast.
The pitfall to this ecosystem is that it only works between Apple devices. It doesn’t just go for that company, however. Guys like Google and Amazon also have their own little ecosystems, and they won’t really be as friendly to devices outside that niche. Apple is just known for kickstarting the whole thing. The ecosystem is great and has a bunch of functionality, but get ready to pay heavy out of pocket for it.
I personally use it for my devices. iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro are all linked on the same account. Everything I do streamlines to the next device. The end result? Pretty damn awesome. I really enjoy using the devices excluding the pretty penny each one ran me. I’d recommend it if you have a few spare dollars to spend on investing in the ecosystem and if you desire a new level of ease of use.
