•Floppy disk drive (FDD) was the primary method of entering data into a computer, until the CD-ROM drive became popular. The floppy disk has been a key component of many personal computers for over 20 years.

•The floppy disk was invented by the US company IBM in 1971. The first floppy disk was using an 8-inch disk, which evolved into a 5.25-inch, first-used by IBM for Personal Computer (PC) in August 1981. The diskette represents the smallest and slowest file storage environment. It is a small, thin plastic flexible disc, coated with a layer of magnetic material on which data can be recorded. To use diskettes on your computer, you must have a floppy disk drive (FDD) in your computer box.

The amount of data that can be recorded on a diskette is small compared to other storage devices. 1.44 MB on 3.5-inch floppy disks vs. thousands of times higher on a hard drive, but the floppy disk is still used to transfer files from one computer to another and to store small volumes of data. Some older computers may have 5.25-inch disk drives with capacities of up to 1.2 MB. disquete.jpg

•At the beginning of the computers, the diskette was very important in the absence of other storage devices, and the first computers only operated with programs loaded from the diskette at the time of execution. Currently, the diskette is used much less frequently for maintenance and troubleshooting or small file transfers. Although it is no longer a vital device for running a modern computer, the diskette drive is still very useful today.

Adio floppy disk😣

UK's largest IT & C product chain, PC World, is about to stop selling floppy disks. Thus, one of the industry's landmarks reaches the trash.

Never forget using my 5.25 inch disk, i still have one also the floppy disks still have few to remember, thanks for reminding us :)

Wow! Didn't know. Seems diskette were already out of extinction before I knew about technology. Thanks for sensitizing.
