Now is the time that commercial drone delivery companies are pushing for further implementation into the market. And in Florida you might soon see some flying around making CVS and UPS deliveries.
From delivering medical equiptment to pizzas, at a time when people are eager to be social distancing and not leaving their homes, drones are available to provide value with delivery services.
From the United States to Canada and elsewhere, a variety of commercial drone delivery services are underway.
In Florida, at first they will be starting with deliveries for only prescription medication and it will only be for those who are living in a specific area, The Villages retirement community.
“Our new drone delivery service will help CVS provide safe and efficient deliveries of medicines to this large retirement community, enabling residents to receive medications without leaving their homes,... UPS is committed to playing its part in fighting COVID-19, and this is another way we can support our healthcare customers and individuals with innovative solutions.” - S. Price, UPS chief strategy and transformation officer.
At first they will be making deliveries only from one CVS store, but more stores might join the delivery network later on. The packages are going to be delivered to a specific pickup location that is near the retirement center final destination, with a UPS ground vehicle finishing the delivery at the door.
This isn't the first time that UPS has been experimenting with drone delivery, neither is it the first company. Within the next decade we could see drone deliveries become much more prevalent in our communities.

Ugh, no! Air pollution, sky pollution, noise pollution, eye in the sky pollution.
the same old complaints we have heard for other tech advances as well😭 ✈️ perhaps they will be using a solar powered variety? 😉 they probably won't be flying low enough for you to see them, or will be so few as to hardly account for "eye in the sky pollution".
You are more optimistic and trusting than I :-)
I just worry that they will have to get low enough to deliver to homes, and that someone tries to use them for surveillance.
Thanks for the post.
To be fair though as I type this I am listening to a large FedEx truck idling outside my home, which aside from the surveillance is already a similar issue to what I fear in drone delivery.
