EXTROPIA’S MAD-TECH: “COMPUTER TERMINAL”
Here’s a vision of the future that looks really antiquated now. This guy appears to be operating a computer terminal of some kind.
You will notice that the storage medium is reel-to-reel tape. Personally, the only time I ever saw this storage format being used was as a prop in old sci-fi movies. Tapes and rows upon rows if blinking lights were popularly thought to represent the impossibly far-off future in many a sci-fi flick.
These days we have smart phones that can easily slip into our pockets while still offering millions of times more processing power and storage capacity than this kind of set-up could manage. Which is pretty amazing if you think about it.
