As we advance more and more in the world of information technology, we are asked questions such as: what technological trends are currently marking the difference? What product or solution of the different manufacturers is in the leadership? What are the best suppliers for my business? In response to all these questions there is the so-called Gartner magic quadrant, a simple graphic representation of the market situation of a technological product at a given time. But what exactly does this quadrant consist of?
The Gartner Group is a consulting and research company in the new technologies market dedicated exclusively to researching and analyzing market trends. On those conclusions, it elaborates a ranking of the manufacturers with better solutions and products. The results are presented under the name of "magic quadrant of Gartner".

What does each part of Gartner's magic quadrant show?
This graphic consists of two axes, the X axis and the Y axis:
- In the X axis, Gartner defines the category "vision integrity" and represents the knowledge of the suppliers on how to take advantage of the current market momentum to generate value, both for their clients and for themselves. On the Y axis is the "ability to execute", which measures the ability of suppliers to successfully execute their particular market vision.
Both divisions fragment the quadrant into four sectors.
The divisions of Gartner's magic quadrant.
- Leaders: here are the suppliers that have obtained the highest score as a result of combining their great capacity of vision of the market and the ability to execute. These companies offer a broad and complete product solution, which is also capable of evolving according to the demand in the market.Challengers or aspirants: these providers offer good functionalities but have a smaller variety of products by focusing on a single aspect of market demand.Visionaries: these may resemble leaders in their ability to anticipate market needs but do not have sufficient means to implement global implementations.Niche players: lastly, there are these stakeholders that do not score enough in either of the two categories.
I hope that this explanation can help you decide on the implementation of a new technology.
