I've been gradually divesting myself of their 'free' services. I recently swapped my email domain over to Protonmail, and I'm happily paying for it. One thing you can do now that's free, is not use their DNS. A lot of people use 8.8.8.8/Google DNS, but you can switch to 1.1.1.1, to give Google one less data point to track you against.

Yeah, it's becoming increasingly clear that nothing is truly free and we pay in one form or the other. Switching DNS could be a solution but a majority of the non tech savvy people won't have a clue about it at all and that's where Google wins.
