You most likely came by this article, because you are not receiving notification or phone calls on your Samsung Galaxy S8. It took me a while to figure this out and while most articles tells you to disable app optimizing for your device no articles I found asked me to go to the Samsung Smart Manager app to enable my selected apps (In my case IMO, Viber, Whatsapp, Messenger and Skype) to autorun on startup. I don't know why autostart is preventing your apps from getting killed by the battery optimizer (ever though I asked it not to), but after enabling these apps in autostart I have received all phone calls and notifications ever since. I still have them disabled in the battery optimizer.
First you need to find Samsung Smart Manager:
Then go to App management:
Then select manage autorun:
And now select all the apps you want to use. These apps will be allowed to run on start up as well as staying awake during use.
That's it! Now your apps will be allowed to stay awake by the battery management. However there is one more step you might be interested in checking out before you close this website.
Samsung also have what they call a "battery optimizer"- This function is meant to reduce the time apps are staying awake by forcing them to sleep if not in use. This means that even though your apps are now running after startup they are now forced to sleep by this function and you might not receive your phone call or notification until much later.
In order to make sure that you are not a victim of this battery optimizer you also need to go into settings and select your apps again to prevent battery optimizer in forcing them to sleep. In order to except your apps from this you need to do following:
Go to Settings -> Apps
Click the "Menu" in top right corner and select -> Special Access
Select -> Optimize Battery Usage ->
Click the dropdown menu at the top of the screen and change "Apps not optimized" to "All Apps"
Now deselect all apps which you want not to be battery optimized. In other words. Deselect all apps you want to receive notifications from (deselected apps will appear in grey).
That's it! You are now the happy owner of a Samsung Galaxy S8 with normal notifications like any other user!
