What happened with blackberry?

hello friends I am kevinkasa and today we will take a look at the history of blackberry and why it ended in bankruptcy, first of all let's make some history

In 1984 he started the company Research In Motion (RIM) in Canada, which later became known as BlackBerry. With the coming of years the company specialized in the creation of telephony devices. Their BlackBerry devices were very innovative at that time, due to their e-mail reading characteristics, the QWERTY keyboard and the BBM chat system. These innovations put them at the forefront of mobile telephony until the year 2009 until that year their shares kept growing, achieving incredible growth and being named by Fortune Magazine as the fastest growing company. From there the debacle began that would end with an incredible fall in the value of the shares of the company and the dismissal of more than 2,500 employees.

But as the company that in its years was the first in sales came to practically bankruptcy?

When BlackBerry emerged, it did with a somewhat peculiar management format, the company had two CEOs: Lazaridis and Balsillie. The first was responsible for the production of telephones and the other for sales and finance. This structure was very effective for the company in its beginnings, when it still did not have the dimensions that would later acquire, but as the company grew it began to represent a problem. Due to the divided structure, decision making was transformed into a complex and slow process. This would then represent one of BlackBerry's biggest problems: speed. The company lacked the necessary speed to make changes and make fundamental decisions, resulting in a slowness that would prevent it from reaching its competitors.

But this was not a problem for blackberry in its beginnings since its only competitor was apple that in the 90 'apple technically was really in bankruptcy, so much so that he had to ask for help from his worst enemy Microsoft and this was little by little recovering thanks to the success of the ipod.

Later in 2007 the already recovered apple takes wing sale in new iphone an extremely attractive device for a younger audience, this had a large screen without buttons with an advanced application system that increased its functionality, blackberry did not see this as a threat since in any case they were already leading the market and this focused on an executive consumer not on the young, then in 2009 the iphone and android were beginning to dominate in the market since not only the young people were interested also in the executives were already interested in the most functional and practical products that apple and android offered and this started to be a problem for blackberry.

Already for the 2012 blackberry decided to finally enter the world of smartphones this was a very bad decision because the few loyal customers who still would conceive very useful their old keyboard were forced to upgrade and preferred to buy iphone and android mobiles already that these were still more functional had app stores full of content games and more that simply left in ridicule the blackberry appstore that in addition their operating system was haggard old-fashioned for the time making their sales were stupidly low, consumers saw the blackberry products like cheap copies of the iphone. the error here was that black berry arrived late to the new world of smartphones causing the aforementioned opinion of consumers.

BlackBerry had opportunities to save itself, but a divided corporate structure and a lack of capacity to adapt led the company to its current situation. The loss of focus caused them to try to gain a portion of the market they already had lost instead of focusing on maintaining corporate and business sector clients. They adapted late and poorly, not having seen before that the future of smartphones was in the consumer market. A company divided and unable to overcome the challenges imposed by its own growth, is doomed to failure.
