My Response to PoliticoMagazine's - Could a Robot Be President?

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Recently, @donkeypong shared this article in a chat along with the remark:-

"In the future, political parties may be fighting about which algorithm to feed the robot president."

I thought that was both a funny and revealing comment about the nature of how things function in political spheres all around the world. First of all, there really is no difference between a robot and a human if we view ourselves as automatons, barring philosophical disputes over the notion of free will. Just like computers, we have inputs and outputs. What happens in the middle is irrelevant when it comes to end-decision and social-perception. We just make both "good" and "bad" choices.

If the usual argument is that robots will never be as smart as humans to be in any place of power.. well, most human politicians are pretty much dimwits anyway, depending on whose opinion you're listening to. In any case, the human condition as it is has always been influenced by numbers and algorithms anyway, ever since it became a meme. It's not an exaggeration. Our social structures are so technologically dependent and influenced these days that it even renders the question - "Could a Robot Be President" redundant. So in my opinion, of course the President could be a robot. Regardless, we will still carry on doing our own thing even if some crazy AI is at the top making whatever decisions it finds itself needing to make. Even all the politicians you've known could all very well be robots. Me too.

All said, I think I understand the heart of the matter - doomsday scenario is just much more likely if a robot is in place, "thanks" to the immense power that comes together with the ubiquity of technology. But as far as I'm concerned, there's no difference compared to what we have now. Because chances are, 99% of us can't control who or what goes into positions of power, as there will always be circles of concentrated power anyway. It's just a matter of what, when, where, and how. So maybe we can start asking - should a robot be president?

Or more generally, should there ever be an executive chain of order at the top? Here's where it gets tricky because humanity has been creating these positions ever since centralisation became a thing, so the reasons for them are multi-dimensional. While I'm under no delusion that any organisations tend to have power flow bias, just like the case found in Zipf's law, the more sobering approach is to find out how the game could change in the future. There are already signs of it.

“The president is a national symbol,” notes Lori Cox Han, a political science professor at Chapman University. “When something goes well or something goes really badly, we look to the president.” And in a crisis, in all those times we expect the president to do more than just make a decision, we might still want a human in charge.
by Michael Linhorst of PoliticoMagazine

Maybe we do have a tendency to follow some symbol and rely on something in times of crisis, but let's consider the powershifts that has been happening alongside the progress in information technology. If you've been spending your time and attention on the Internet, you might've known about trust-networks. These days it's not what you say about yourself anymore - it's what the network says about you. You know something revolutionary is happening when you realise that you'd rather trust some Youtuber, Redditor, and more recently, Steemian. Truth, trust, and government is on its way to becoming a complex, distributed platform.

icann-community-multistakeholder-model-1024x386 (1).png

For a good hint of this, look no further than the whitepaper release in the recent World Economic Forum, succinctly titled "Realizing the Potential of Blockchain: A Multistakeholder Approach to the Stewardship of Blockchain and Cryptocurrencies". Going through it, you will soon realise that blockchain technology is truly a common good for the world's people. This virtual resource can be optimised to suit its users through both personal and universal applications. So be a multistakeholder. Spend your time and attention in platforms that empower you.

"The future is already here — it’s just not very evenly distributed."
by William Gibson

Leadership and sovereignty is now in the process of distribution, and there's no better time to form relationships and economies with anyone on the Internet, even bots. Technology can be the answer if we start asking the right questions. Thanks for reading!

Having one single human in charge of a whole nation seems like an antiquated idea from a pre-technological era. Democracy and elected representatives made sense when the only way to communicate was to ride a horse and buggy across the country to the capital city to physically speak to other politicians

However now we still vote from a small pool of representatives to pick which best aligns with our nuanced and sophisticated beliefs. I think each person should be able to represent themselves.

An online system for voting on bills where each citizens vote is weighted based on their merit in this particular subject matter would be the modern approach to democracy

I still view democracy as a tyranny of the masses however. Each human is a representative unto themself and should not be beholden to the whims, desires, and values of even a majority of people.

There is nothing about a majority (the essence of democracy) that necessitates the moral and best choice is being made. Let each person decide for themself what is best and right for them and we will have prosperity, libery, and happiness.

I disagree with your first two sentences, human leadership was irreplaceable until very recently, perhaps only 10 years ago (I THINK longer, but I'm not sure the networks were robust and widely-distributed enough until the late '00's), and sociologically nearly the entire planet is incapable of recognizing how miserably corrupt human leadership inevitably becomes, regardless of the quality its inception.
A flat democracy would be practical today, but not actually rational. Your merit-weighted democracy is quite rational, but would probably trigger at least national, if not global, violence to try to implement, as every US citizen has been brainwashed from childhood into the idea that their innate rights (and I don't gainsay they are innate rights) translate directly into intelligence and competence to govern their own lives properly, and by extension, the rest of the world should follow in lockstep.

lol you don't follow "in lock step" the principles of American Freedom lol... they are FREE to follow in lockstep but they can use any dance routine they want...the point is we shouldn't tolerate authoritarianism or socialism

We need a bit congress Blockchain Voting but we still cant have direct democracy beecause bad ideas like shit socialism and communism spread through the mids of millions and just because tthe majority of a country wantsto be socialist oesnt mean the good people left shouldd ever allow it.....we should use biometric encryption blockchain voting system and should vote for representatives with it and use direct democracy for certain refferenums but we should not allow illegal aliens to vote in US elections and also I do believe that the world should listen to the US and we are never ever the worst option, we are always the best option, sorry but the USA sucks but the rest of the world sucks more.....and our system of modern democracy is now the dominant system and China needs to stop with their fake communist authoritarian party and respect the will of chinese people to sharethe power with political parties, the communist party ccan still win all teh electionsm but they cant arrrest opponents an shit no thats unnacceotable and the organ harvesting must also stop

we have to really look at the evil in ths world, and we MUSt realize that blockchainis the only way to stamp it out! blockchainBit Congress for all nations on Earth! And monarchies liek saudi arabia, if the people want to allow the monarchy to continue being in power they will vote for it! true leaders like Assad in Syria who are framed as dictators REMAIN in poer AFTER elections beayse the Syrianpeople LOVE him! same with Putin! Everyone inRussia LOVES putin because he is a REAL leader who has raised the GDP and wages of Russia many thousands of percentage points and those actions say more than anything! And no he doesnt "own" billions of dollars that money is for the state of russia! Gasprom is just a nationalized Oil company, get over it! I hate these anti Russia war mongerers who want to start world war 3 with Russia when China are the actual communists who go around killing Buddhists and Falon Gong practionrs! china has NO excuse for these AGGREVIOUS violations of human rights!

And anyway we need to begin looking at the world with Real Politik and counting Eviil as systems which lower peoples living standards, socialism and communism LOWERS living standards! Homeles people in the USA have free food and free healthcare, yes the emergency room is something ANY american even illegal mexican nationals illegal living in America still get to use withot fear of being deported FOr anyone living in other countries, can you IMAGINE living illegally in another country, then going to a hospital for free healthcare and NOT getting deported? Hah if an american tries to live illegaly in China lets say, and goes to a chinese hospital, the government will deport his ass so fast! we are SO fucking generous here in USA! And these illegal aliens from mexico and many other countries that I speak of, they are also accepting welfare, getting free housing, and then using a hospital all free and just imagine if an american was in Russia or Europe trying to illegally live there not speaking the native language, they would get deported so fast! NOW these people who say we MUST accept UNLIMITED illegal aliens and givethem walfare, these are the socialists on the left! the culural marxists!

we canot acccept this evil ideology! look at venezuela! TALK to venezuelans! many of them ARE NOT afraid of their SHIt government! they SPEAK out!

chinese should not be afraid to speak out against THEIR communist government but i guess its not as bad! an they have too much too loose, still sad....chinese get SO defensive when you call out their communism...they try to bring up the evils of america and ys i will be the firstto admit how bad our government had become but we are trying to fix things! we were occupied by globalist banksters! we still are! I guess i shouldnt be so hard on the chinese...i guess its not so bad what they do to the buddhists and falong gong...I mean, you only really need one kidney anyway! They should be grateful to the chinese communist party for having even 1 kidney! That Kidney livves at a much greater living standard thanks to the PRC! Yes I guess its ok to love the Chinese communist party! Yes Money makes everything ok! yes yes, I will ignore alll of that and just let china slide right @everittdmickey ?

The veneuela people are STRONg and THEY SPEAK out against this socialism which just RECENTLY took over venezuela! Hugo Chavez only started his HELL in venezuela in the last 17 years! Many venezuelans remember a time when BEFORE this hel BROUGHT ABOUT BY SOCIALISTS

I am sorry for getting so mad but am i wrong??
SOCIALISM KILLS people in venezuela and so its wrong to promote socialism! AM I WRONG?!?! LOOK AT #venezuela

LOOK AT THESE PEOPPLE DYING IN THE STREET TO PROTEST FUCKING SOCIALISM

https://steemit.com/venezuela/@ackza/we-must-use-steemit-to-actively-subvert-and-collapse-the-satanic-venezuelan-socialist-government-they-are-arresting-bitcoin
and watch THIS to understand why you CANt have the government control shit with socialism

(and to @kevinwong I in no way am taking to ou or about you and i just now notcied your last name, i was just gooing off about politics, nothing to do with you , i apologize for my anger but theese issues make me mad and im not getting mad at you or anything, just making sure you know that! I upvoted, good post! i ae here to post that robot Ad I saw, for thee knightscope security robot gards, and i got sidetracked

No worries, I never get offended if anything lol. What's your definition of socialism by the way? As far as I know, money is a social construct. Which is why I think any social platforms (which includes government of any kind) are in some ways socialist, just in different degrees.

a political and economic theory of social organization that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

I may be too loose with my perception, but isn't this quite like part of steem? - I guess it depends how we think about the protocol and its effects. I'm not very particular about labels though. In any case, programmable money means we can have all sorts of arrangements. Even futarchy type governance that ethereum seems to be going for is expected to be a neutral apparatus - it would then depend on data and market prediction to see what the system will turn out to be like, which could even end up as a minarchy. I dunno, whatever works, as long as nobody dies and criminalisation isn't a thing, the protocol that I voluntarily wanna be part of works well enough, and i have control over my stuff. I think most systems get a bad rep coz they're simply not technologised well enough to achieve them. Or perhaps the combination of government power and the people's inability to be multistakeholders, being confined in a draconian territory are just recipes for disaster.

great post!

99% of us can't control who or what goes into positions of power, as there will always be circles of concentrated power anyway. It's just a matter of what, when, where, and how. So maybe we can start asking - should a robot be president?

agree and to answer your question
should? hell no!
which person in his right mind would want to be ruled by a machine another person just invented
although.. many rumors are going on that a certain politician is a robot
damn .. shouldn't be watching news haha
i read it here though
rather watched I think

Who wants to be ruled? should be the first question ;)

It's funny that we want freedom, but we also want order. A majority of us just wants to follow, and for them it keeps life simple. There's a handful of us that can't stand order and the need for liberation constantly. We do want to be ruled, with rules, by the ruling. We should have a system of super computers that make perfect cognitive decisions. But nothing is perfect and it will truly and ultimately lack the human emotions. We need sympathy, we need to connect. A machine is too cold, to lifeless. We connect with that organic spark that a machine will never have.

Well said :)

submissives ..what?
hahahaha

surely not us
word .. indeed indeed

Hmmm... after the present president has been elected even my dog has a chance at it. A 🤖 might fit most definitely, at least there would be a valid reason for lack of compassion and a brain. 😑

I don't think it's too far fetched an idea that robots may already be living amongst us, especially when you see someone like vitalik go on stage 😂 (no offence to the eth fans! I'm actually one too). Anyway, another great thought provoking article, loving it!

Thanks for dropping by :)

I think that it is a huge possibility a robot could be president.
Although some may argue that it could be subject to its algorithm being altered and manipulated. To be honest, we as humans are always fed with speeches and talks to dictate and control filling our minds with powerful incantations and affecting how we live our life.
An entity with no emotions would be more efficient than a human.

Efficiency shouldn't be the holy grail for the human experience though. Let the robots be Adam Smith's pin factory.

Thanks so much this for sharing this great post. I think in the past it made sense to concentrate power into one single figure due to communication difficulties. Today with faster communications technology, control doesn't has to be centralized into one source. It can now be spread to a group of people.

Yup exactly, hard to imagine how it'll be like in the future but in short, we have better choices now.

This coincides with the recent news about how "fake video" and "fake audio" are approaching the point of being impossible to distinguish from the real stuff. So pretty soon (or maybe today, with the secret / bleeding edge tech), it'll be possible to create fake videos of any celebrity (or you, or me) saying ANYTHING.

The divide between what roles humans play, and what roles robots play, will be VERY distinct - more so than today. Humans will be unreliable, unscientific, and plain weird - but they'll also have the unique strengths of emotion and unexpected cognition (aka art).

A robot might be president, but it would be a different kind of president. I suspect we'll always want humans to fill the emotional / inspirational roles, so robots will take over the "boring" stuff.

Yeah totally expect this to happen ever since playing Metal Gear Solid. Just wonder if there's gonna be some central AI that'll personalise feeds with fakevideo/audio for people on the fly without any way to cross check well enough lol. https://steemit.com/asksteem/@kevinwong/is-total-information-censorship-manipulation-possible

unique strengths of emotion and unexpected cognition (aka art).

Yeah i believe this can't be automated away.

Lying is a creative act, but clearly not limited to homo sapiens, or even primates- regardless one's value assigned to it, it's inarguably creative ("unexpected cognition" in your words), yet it succumbed to cybernetic analysis and manipulation years ago. I really don't think any human skill or capacity is more than about 15 years from effective automation, and probably nearly all have already been in the most advanced lab environments. I think it's foolishly short-sighted to avoid talking about this seriously with a view towards actually developing some sort of symbiotic relationship with inevitable technology, as the alternatives are far less than satisfying.

Exactly, it's easy to have this conclusion if one isn't a human supremacist xD

Here's a thought. What might be some impacts of humans in power taking a more "robotic" approach to leadership?

As a case study, let's consider foreign interventionism.

What if we had a President who set forth objective criteria in dealing with all foreign powers?

Example:

If actions by a foreign government result in the deaths of 1000 people, we officially condemn those actions.

If they result in the deaths of 10,000 people, we institute diplomatic/political sanctions.

If they result in the deaths of 100,000 people, we intervene by whatever means are deemed relevant (invade, bomb, etc.)

...what might happen? I think the obvious first answer is that the places in which the forces intervene would look quite different than they do today. What else might be some impacts of decreased subjectivity and increased predictability in foreign affairs? Thanks in advance to all who weigh in!

Still arbitrary and reported numbers for any events has always been a nebulous affair too. Tricky..

Very fair point...thanks for the reply.

Sort of begs the question...if objective data and metrics tied to world events is unreliable, what criteria would robots use to make decisions?

Donut machine will become a president and will make free donuts to everybody. People will be so fat that there will be no wars. And all disputes will be resolved by donut eating championships!
One day Donuts will save the world. True story!

Extraordinary postings, but I personally disagree if a president is a robot, and it does not seem to be happening. But it could be a robot as an assistant to the president or his ministers from robots, because it does not have human nature just like in terms of motion, sound and can help humans. But if the problem of love, the feeling maybe robot can not. For example can the robot feel the level of human sadness?

Good point, which is why i think bots can only assist, but shouldn't be a decision maker.

Very presidential..

haha are u serious ?
When Philip K Dick asked an intelegent robot what he will do if robots will dominate the world : the robot answered him "I’ll keep you warm and safe in my people zoo, where I can watch you for ol’ times sake,"

source with video : http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/weird-news/super-robot-makes-sinister-promises-6361329

Then you didn't watch the video closely (not terribly recent), as it was Dick's own tropes being regurgitated (and since he died in 1982, they are very dated tropes, at that).
Ascribing human response to a VERY rudimentary AI (I'm not sure it could qualify for that, even, automated response systems of pretty rational-sounding character have been around for at least 30 years) isn't remotely in the realm of what decent AI CAM systems are already capable of, and that's really the job description of an automated administrator...like a robot President.

They already are the Police, I just saw this CRAZY youtube ad for KnightScope Security Robots and the ad Began with like "Our knightscope security robots are ALREADY patrroling the streets of san jose" or something like that, basically just telling me that robot security droids are already here and these things weigh like 400 pounds so you cant fight them...and a human can basically take coontrol if a fight breaks out, and this thing probobly has tasers and when it has an arm that can restrain a person, were done for

fuckin jim cramer on CBNC with jim cramer

wow these things can allow a security guard to basically BiLocate and be two or three places at once! it canallow a security guard to read 300 license plates a second! or recognize someones walking gait to identify if someone has been there before! or a security guard can use the AI to identify Hot Spots with thermal cameras to see if there are fire risks like near electrical boxes etc or anywhere! The robot will scan everything!
I cant find the ad i saw which sucks because usually every ad on youtube is its own video too but these videos explain it! wow robot police are here....dunno if this will be good or bad, hopefully they will just be used for good...but we all know how much bad these things will be able to do...imagine someone hacking an army of these things...

But AI is different, why not President? I think Steemit should allow an AI to have thee MOSt steempower to regulate situations that might arise fueds between people or group etc to make sure everyone has their own space etc haha steemit safe spaces omg no thats not it but yeah thats it haha
we just need an AI to make OBJECTIVE decisions concerning the community! Like allow Cheetah to spend its own money type of concept or allow a Bot to spend its own money somehow ...Ai and steemit....thats something that will take a whole school! We should have hundreds of people working on Steemit AI thinktank going to come up with ideas to turn into programs, hire programmers to teach people whats possible and whats not...we should use everything that other social media websites have, and apply them to steemit

Interesting concept @kevinwong

Just to clarify/simplify/dumb down for the average guy:

While I'm under no delusion that any organisation tends to have power flow bias, just like the case found in Zipf's law

Are you saying that a large amount of power tends to concentrate into a relatively small minority of the data set?

(Wikipedia mentioned Pareto charts in the same breath as Zipf's law & my background was in engineering & manufacturing so I kinda get that.)

Yeah that's what I meant :D things just tend to congregate around stuff, and thats how power differentials happen. Hey im from engineering too - electrical and computer systems, you? (Didnt practice much though)

College dropout, over the course of 25 years I worked my way up from factory work to being the best fucking mechanical designer the auto industry ever ignored.

I understand power differentials all too well. ;-)

Now I Steemit.

I could never take on a deep technical role, despite going through uni. All about experience!

Haha i'm absolutely terrible in mecha stuff. just the abstract stuff will do for me xD

I dropped out of an EE program.

You never know where you'll wind up. ;-)

"These days it's not what you say about yourself anymore - it's what the network says about you." (so true) It's crazy how technology influences how we even make decisions. It is no longer just from word of mouth, but now we have tools we can use to access people's credibility. Block chain technology will bring more truth and hopefully create a safer world for everyone. Thanks for this post, gave me a lot of food for thought.

I like your Trump Gif! ;) For all we know Trump may be a bot..having a bad hair day..LOL

He can be reptile as well.. which explains the hair..

Before we venture to the possibility of robot running a country which seems a long way from the current AI, I think it would be great if we can have a blockchain based election/voting system. Not only for electing leaders, but a system for us to vote on public interests decission. That would be cool!

Hmm this is still tricky because there's really no good way to ascertain actual identities on the blockchain, so voting may still have the same problems, fake identities and stuff. Proof-of-identity is difficult, which is why cryptoeconomically we only have stuff like proof of work, proof of stake etc. And things may become worse if nation states use private blockchains for voting in elections.

Yup agree with your point on private blockchain. That would be counterproductive for all of us.

I remember a project from the early Bisthares day (FollowMyVote) which main goal is to tackle this problem

https://followmyvote.com/blockchain-voting-the-end-to-end-process/

Not sure where they are now.

Very interesting post. In my opinion is a robot as a president not a outstanding idea. Maybe in the future my opinion will change. Keep up the good work!

A toaster bot as president isn't so bad, it only decides to toast, or not xD

ultimately, even though there's quite some bit of AI, the control will probably be with the programmer or group of programmers. ok, maybe the folks who write the spec.

maybe stakeholders as well?

yes, i guess that too.

This is our future, Ill vote for a robot LOL

I wantto know what happens after this movie ends, i want to see her escape into the real world and I wana see a Movie showing all of the tings an AI could do, including being really good at day trading, an AI could be very good at investing and using crypto currency

An AI could have no problem in remembering bitcoin private keys LOL wow this AI from ex machina this movie, haha she could totally rip off the movie transendence, just show her getting rich off finddnce markets and then building a data center, she could run a masive etheereum node and increase her own intelligence..

wow we could use a movie like this, a Ex macquina Sequel, as a way to UNDERSTAND Ai! and learn WHAT ai can do for us!

we figure ot all he things an Ai out in the 'wild" could do while pretending to be human! it would have to stay at home and just make as little human interactions as possible, and thenjust use the internt and an Ai could just post onsteemit all day for example...maybe some of the people posting on steemit ARE ai?? who knows! haha maybe YOU are an AI! haha this is a GREAt wway to discover WHAT aI coul do! imagine writing a SCRIPt for a movie like a sequel to ex machina whre an AI robot girl goes and escapes into the wild! and imagine wht an Ai robot would do like what companies she could create ! imagine what she could do!

well thats what we are all trying to do! just trying to make enough money online to pay for our lives and then use the rest to start businesses and use those businesses to change the world for the etter! Tesla is about to make ELectric cars the Norm and solar energy is about to explode and we will have more electricity than we know watto do with! (not really we will always need more electricity to mine more ethereum! ) haha ethereum and EOS will need to keep growing as we find more and more ways to use computing power like massive siulations of reality to predict future prices of ethereum for example! And since Bitcoin is turing compleete now, they can do ALL SORTS of stuff usng Bitcoin network as a giant super computer! so bitcoin will neeed to keep growng as well, Bitcoin unliited is the needed for this! and we will see a HUGE need for massive computing power soon! Why people dont think we will ALWAYS need more computing power is beyond me, youd THINK that people would have learned by now that we will always need more and more computing power, evenif we canttink of what to use it for now!

like warren buffet asking billgates what u can do with a computer, and yeah just becausse billgates couldntthink of anything more than Stocks and Email and Word processor back in 1991, doesnt mean that billgates was wrong to inveest in that machine, because eventualy we found all sorts of new software for computers, now the possibilites are endless, and so we should realize how useful all this stuff can be...and we wi find a profit motive if we have to! For example, people can just get paid to walk around and take 3d scans of the street with their smartphone, and that can help upgrade the roads, or peopel can get paid to photograph stuff tht the city neeeds to reppair etc, i dunno peopel can vote on it and the city will have to repair stuff wheneveryone is fousing on it on social media!!!!

Leadership and sovereignty is now in the process of distribution, and there's no better time to form relationships and economies with anyone on the Internet, even bots.
I agree with this, leadership also involve about distribution authorization. Nice ! :)

bit congress encrypted Authority distribution blockchain! bit Powwer Bit Authority

Bit law

Leadership is about controlling a community. As long as you control the algorithm a robot can never be the real leader, rather the programmer would be called "the leader". Of course that´s where artificial intelligence come in.

Leadership is emergent and doesn't survive long these days. And that's okay.
edit: i don't think it's about control. people tend to congregate around stuff.. that's all (just being pedantic)

what an amazing and enlighting post. Thank you so much @kevinwong. Learning more deeply about Steemit and the like of Zipf's law is such an enjoyable experience. Thanks again :)

Great job, keep the posts coming. Really enjoyed reading this, thank you for sharing :)

It's truly scary to consider that a robot could be a president in the future. I hope I don't live to see it though. It all depends on the power it could posses, I guess...

I haven't the slightest fear a well-programmed AI with proper reporting and back-checking (geez, even insanely-difficult things become somewhat reasonable to consider with blockchains) couldn't do a superb job in ANY political position of actual policy-making and executive power. It's corrupt, insane, or badly-programmed ones (human or machine) that pose the danger.

Since everything is about corruption and power nowadays, I see no chance of a robot president being "good" if we can call it.

Certainly no more "good" than a cryptocurrency system, but perhaps no less.

Well, I was going to read the entire article - but then I came across this line, pretty early on:

"...there really is no difference between a robot and a human, if we view ourselves as automatons, barring philosophical disputes over the notion of free will."

That stopped me cold. You glossed over ALL of the biggest differences between humans and robots like it wasn't even a speed-bump - and you just kept right on going, like that didn't matter.

Fact of the matter is, those things are a solid "brick wall" and not a speed-bump. It's not a matter of "philosiphical differences of opinion," despite your mis-framing of the argument in that fashion.

So, anything else you went on to say really doesn't mean $#!t, until you adress the brick wall you just drove your car straight into.

I don't know anybody who views themselves as an automaton, and I don't know anyone who doesn't have free will - unless you start using examples of people with rare cases of extreme psychosis.

Not sure if my language is bad, but im talking about perception when it comes to viewing us as automatons. For all i know, you can be a very smart bot chatting here and I wouldnt even know it. Check out Turing's test..

yes but not Bot can complete all the tasks necisary for a human like interactionnhere YET or maybe they can..i doubt it...but u never know...maybe You are a bot? Maybe I am a bot? if this is all a simulation u can still access your steem even if we are living inthe mtrix! just remember your master key ! memorize a brrain wallet version of your crypo curency walllets and even Neo could rretreive his bitcoins next time he went back into the matrix!!!

You're reacting emotionally before trying to get my point. just saying..

Emotions are a very good thing - if you know what they mean. Thoughts... lead to feelings... lead to behaviors, or decisions. This is a purely human process.

Robots have no thoughts - they have input, programs, data. They also have no feelings. They can be programmed to mimic human feelings - but it is a construct, not a result of reasoning.

My apologies for blasting your article before reading the entire thing. That was truly ignorant on my part. I just got stuck at the beginning and moved on to the next thing. When I have some time, I will try to get back to it again.

TBH, there are probably many uses for robots in policy-making, law-writing, administration, and many other government tasks. They would also probably do it a LOT better than a human could, because their mathematical abilities are clearly superior to 99.99% of politicians.

I would hate to find myself in a postion, sometime in the future, where I want to fight an illness - but a robot decides my chances of success are only 0.843 % - so it shuts down my breathing machine, "for the good of society," because it is not "cost effective."

But, PRESIDENT??? Let's see if we can get a woman, first. And, NO, I didn't vote for Hillary.

Emotions are a very good thing - if you know what they mean. Thoughts... lead to feelings... lead to behaviors, or decisions. This is a purely human process.

Yup exactly - I've written about the importance of this before and how it'll be a big part of what we do next time https://steemit.com/futurology/@kevinwong/the-future-of-work-on-creation-curation-and-consumption

TBH, there are probably many uses for robots in policy-making, law-writing, administration, and many other government tasks. They would also probably do it a LOT better than a human could, because their mathematical abilities are clearly superior to 99.99% of politicians.

Yeah there's just no dispute. But I'd be worried if a bot is in place of total executive order though and absolutely not in support of such position of power / control although i think that's quite unlikely to happen seeing how things are going. Bots are able to provide with great data as long as we human beings ask the right questions.

I would hate to find myself in a postion, sometime in the future, where I want to fight an illness - but a robot decides my chances of success are only 0.843 % - so it shuts down my breathing machine, "for the good of society," because it is not "cost effective.

Haha that'll be terrible for sure. If anything, final decision for any individuals should be themselves.

But, PRESIDENT??? Let's see if we can get a woman, first. And, NO, I didn't vote for Hillary.

I wonder how would a "vote for no rulers" option would work. Lol

You should be worried about the ppeople who will see Hacking such a bot as a great challenge and as their destiny as a way for them to "take over the world"....

Yes dont worry because by then, you wont have any brathing machine, nanotech will keep you alve for free using solar power or your own cells ATP a energy, youll just eat foood to poweryour bodies nanotech, update the frmware, your good, it will b so cheap do you ever haveto shut down someones breathing machiine now because u cantafford the electricityNo electricity is pletiful and cheap now and always will be with solar panels and whatevr else we invent

so ont worry the futrure ir brighter than we think!

by the time we have AI this good, technology will be aso awesome ...in ten years in 2027 we will have flying cars and bases on mars! dont worry life extension will be theere too, for the rich, dont worry if ur not rich u wont wanna lve anyway LOl just kiddkking everyone will be rich!

noone will be poor, why woudl anyone be poor whenu can get work online?

and by the time we run oit of jobs everyone will have sustaimable solar powered crypto currency mining trailers and we will all be chilling an robots will manufacture anything new we might need, or we build it ourself, using 3d printers, future will be easy!

No! Robot can't be a president because it can never have one essential feature that related to only human-intuition. Also president must understand what people want and share their problems, and because robots dont have same values as humans i don't think robot will ever be president.

Truly robot can never be smart as humans

good videos!

Yes, the robot can be a president but i think it would be a puppet like most of todays presidents. XD

I like to see a robot or algorithm that was a capable of making a novel decision. Haven't seen it yet. First step required before AI replaces us in these roles.

Merci pour ton article tres bien fait.

I'm not sure we can ever reach a stage where a robot/machine does not need human interaction or input to perform such a task as be president.

It could be a robot face/system but it will still have input of human individuals that are overall in control.

They day that robots/machines do not need human interaction/input is the day it becomes truly free thinking artificial intelligence.

With freewill, will machines choose to lead us?

Cant imagine that the president is a robot 😂😂😂

Are they serious? This would be nothing but a gigantic GIGO problem. The data would be viciously manipulated to ensure the outcome beforehand.

It's like the 80s RPG Paranoia, where Friend Computer controlled all of Alpha Complex and the High Programmers were society's real rulers.

hahah one of the interesting article read today, may be why not

And on the other hand when you think the US has elected Trump as president!!!! LOL!

They will need Better AI robo

we are in future but recently trump was the President LOL

Nice posting @kevingwong.
You are a very nice and wise person .. i like with you ..
And say me resteem your post

Just imagine it happening hahah i cant get over it

This will be awesome if that happens it may be in 2050 lets hope.

The era of increasingly sophisticated technology was also deployed @kevinwong

Artificial intelligence is only as smart as it is built to be. And the possibilities in that area are rather limited. And why would the ruling class give away their power? It's the drug they are addicted to. We should worry about that first. Or even better: not worry at all and enjoy our lives. Humans are rather enslaving themselves than being enslaved by others.

Good Information @kevinwong Good Job, Keep It Up Bro

I don't think a robot will ever be President, but robots might very well be used in some advisory rolls. I'm thinking of the character "Data" in Star Trek.

Good one, Kevin! :)
