Amazon's Part Finder helps you find those weird screws you need

in #technology6 years ago

Amazon just keeps in innovating. Who would think Amazon would come up with such a product like this?

If you have a home hardware part you can't really identify but need more of, you might find that the camera in Amazon's iPhone app is a bit more useful after a low-key recent update. The new Part Finder tool uses computer vision to determine the type of screw, nut, bolt or other fastener you have, and points you to where you can buy more in its store. Amazon added the feature to its iOS app a couple of weeks back, it confirmed to TechCrunch, but didn't announce Part Finder or even mention it in the App Store release notes. There's no sign of an Android release as yet.

Not sure if the math works with this product. While we do buy a lot of screws, the cost is minuscule. Unlike many of Amazon's business moves over the last dacade, this one doesn't seems to tie the knot. The screw industry isn't that big. Home repair is though. Perhaps this is just the first of the many steps to "test the market" of new industry.

Definitely a good product to deliver. No one who is busy wants to go to the store to search for a pack of screws or a light bulb

Could be. An app to help look for lost house keys would be more helpful though.
