I can understand that, but I also know that Steve Jobs was a weirdo and an asshole.
It's one thing controlling how much media your children consume, but having a strict "no tech" rule or even banning smartphones can negatively affect your children.
I'm speaking from some experience, because I wasn't exposed to the same media as my core group of friends when I was young. I didn't get to watch the Simpsons due to extracurricular activities that I didn't want to be involved in. Now I don't really get all of the popular Simpson's references and, at that time, I couldn't really get into conversations about what everyone else had seen the night before.
Not being able to talk to your friends about the latest TV shows, games, or apps can be a pretty bad situation for a kid trying to fit in. Not having access to chat apps that everyone is using will literally keep you out of conversations.
